ABOUT THE POSITION
The Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) is seeking a dynamic physician educator and leader to serve as founding faculty in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. This part-time position is open to candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Full Professor. Academic rank to be determined by The Chicago School & Illinois COM academic rank policy.
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator accomplished clinician and innovative leader with expertise in the applications of Osteopathic Principles to clinical practice within a broad range of specialties including ONMM Emergency Medicine Family Medicine Internal Medicine Pediatrics Obstetrics and Gynecology Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sports Medicine and Surgical specialties. The successful candidate will help oversee the delivery of the medicine and clinical skills components of Patient Centered Osteopathic Practice (PCOP) curriculum which will incorporate all the physical skills and tasks related to being an Osteopathic physician including OMT. The successful candidate will also support faculty development and foster a collaborative student-focused environment that aligns with the mission and values of IllinoisCOM and The Chicago School.

The University is building the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine or the IllinoisCOM (pre-accreditation status) anticipated to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a Mission to train exceptional physicians to leverage the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate patient-centered care of the highest quality.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Leadership & Administration
Provide leadership and supervision for preclinical osteopathic medical students within IllinoisCOM.
Participate as faculty lead for the Medicine and Primary Care components in the first and second year PCOP courses.
Lead PCOP lecture and lab didactic sessions as assigned and mutually agreed upon with the OMM Department Chair
Assist with curriculum development and assessment in the PCOP course as needed.
Teaching Curriculum Development & Student Success
Contribute to the development and delivery of an innovative interdisciplinary PCOP curriculum.
Teach medical students using evidence-based instructional methods including case-based learning and OMM integration lab supervision and table training
Support student coaching mentoring and professional development in academic and clinical settings.
Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integrate PCOP content across the curriculum.
Service
Represent the College in professional organizations and events.
Assist where needed with student recruitment including interviews and community outreach efforts.
Advocate for diversity equity and inclusion in medical education.
Engage in clinical practice (strongly encouraged).
Research & Scholarly Activity
Promote a culture of research and scholarship.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
DO with board certification or eligibility in related specialty.
At least 3 years of experience in medical education (includes participation during residency training for new graduates and early career physicians)
Demonstrated excellence in teaching curriculum development and student mentorship.
Strong supervisory interpersonal communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills.
Motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the OMM department and overall university.
Commitment to collaborative interprofessional education and the integration of osteopathic principles and practice in training.
At least 3 years of clinical practice and teaching experience (can include residency and fellowship training for new graduates and early career physicians).
Proficiency in basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite including Powerpoint Word Outlook and Excel
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a course or co-course director in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Physician Skills or other clinical haptic and tactile based course at an accredited Osteopathic medical school
Osteopathic Medical Student precepting in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and/or other clinical setting.
Strong background in point of care ultrasound (especially musculoskeletal) educational innovation simulation-based training and competency-based assessment including COMLEX style item writing.
Established record of research and scholarly activity in medical education or respective specialty.
Demonstrated commitment to health equity diversity and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education.
POSITION DETAILS
This opportunity is budgeted at $100000 $160000 annual base compensation commensurate with rank and experience. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
