Job Description

Pay: $21.00-23.00 per hour

The Esperanza Center provides a welcoming atmosphere social services health services legal support and English as a Second Language (ESL) to immigrants in the Baltimore metropolitan area. The centers staff offers assistance with employment English proficiency legal services and access to primary and urgent health care and referral services. The health services are offered in partnerships with area hospitals and medical schools.

Catholic Charities of Baltimore Esperanza Center Health Services is currently seeking a Medical Assistant (Bilingual)that will be responsible for assisting clinicians with patient care performing appropriate procedures and preparing rooms and equipment. The MA is also responsible for maintaining records and interacting in a friendly professional manner with patients family members and other staff. This position is also responsible for clinical process improvement and acts as a coordinator for lab and referral issues. The MA will be culturally competent and has the ability to work well with people from other countries and cultures who communicate in other languages and may or may not be literate in any language. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 5:00pm and Friday 8:30am-12:30pm; 30-32 hours per week(This is a Part-time position)

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and accurately obtains and documents medical histories and vital signs ensuring information is complete and entered promptly into the record.
  • Assists clinicians during examinations ensuring all instruments documentation and patient comfort measures are in place and accurately maintained.
  • Prepares patients for in-office procedures confirming consent explaining steps and ensuring all required documentation and supplies are complete.
  • Thoroughly cleans and disinfects exam rooms and equipment after each visit performs sterilization per infection-control protocols and maintains fully stocked supplies forms and materials reporting shortages or equipment issues promptly.
  • Contacts outside medical offices and testing facilities to obtain patient records before scheduled visits ensuring documentation is complete and promptly filed.
  • Assists patients in scheduling follow-up appointments verifying contact information and documenting plans to ensure continuity of care.
  • Reviews call logs for medication refill requests verifies patient information and prescription details and routes complete documentation to the clinician for timely approval.
  • Administers point-of-care testing as ordered by the clinician ensuring proper specimen collection accurate results and timely documentation in the patient record.
  • Maintains professional and collaborative relationships with staff and other programs actively contributing to a positive team-oriented work environment.
  • Attends clinic team meetings all-staff meetings and staff retreats as scheduled actively contributing to discussions and follow-up actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years experience in primary care clinic preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).

  • Displays excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Accepts responsibility for maintaining a safe and secure environment for both patients and co-workers.
  • Demonstrates comfort and accountability in environments where patients/clients may be unable to perform basic life tasks.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of personal care housekeeping and other essential care areas.
  • Effectively relates to and provides compassionate trauma-informed care for patients and families with diverse personalities and needs including those facing economic hardship language barriers or limited literacy ensuring respectful and effective communication.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills ensuring clear and effective exchanges.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks which may involve walking standing as required by the role.
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 25 pounds in all directions which may include lifting carrying pushing pulling or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Engaging in communication with others to exchange information which may involve speaking listening writing or using electronic communication methods to ensure clear and effective understanding. This includes both verbal and non-verbal interactions with colleagues clients or external parties.
  • Assessing the accuracy neatness and completeness of assigned work to ensure it meets quality standards and adheres to established guidelines.
  • Hearing and vision abilities with or without correction sufficient to drive safely and effectively observe and communicate with others.
