Job Description

Mainland Excavation & Shoring is hiring! We are looking for experienced Operatorsto join our team.


The Excavator Operator will be responsible for operating an excavator in construction sites to support Excavation and Deep Foundations.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Work safely in a construction site and promote a safe work environmentadhering to safety policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance and safety inspections of their assigned piece of equipment as outlined in Mainlands equipment policy
  • Responsible for Maintaining pre-trip inspections/activity logs
  • Operators are to operate their equipment in a manner as not to cause damage to the equipment or any surrounding structures or impediments and to do so safely to ensure the safety of themselves and others onsite
  • Operators are expected to work with the Foreman to perform various tasks including but not limited to excavations both bulk and/or detailed excavation utility installations grading ditching sloping accordance with the project specifications
  • Ensure effective communication on progress and any potential issues are brought to the attention of the Foreman/ crew


Qualifications Experience & Skillset


    • Must have minimum of one year experience as an excavator operator in bulk and detailed excavations or experience operating on civil utility works.
    • Current experience operating 200 - 400 size Excavators
    • Understand grading plans/stakes and drawings is a benefit
    • Must possess valid Class 5 Drivers License and be able to travel to sites across region.
    • Maintain quality results of work to be done.
    • Maintain equipment and promptly report any maintenance issues.
    • Good communications ability able to work with variety of individuals
    • Work as a team with other crew members on daily activities of the site.
    • First aid confined space and fall protection training is an asset.
    • Understanding of Safety and ability to communicate Safety issues as they arise
    • Must be physically fit able to spend most or all shift standing walking lifting and carrying working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
    • Flexibility with hours worked including overtime and weekend work as needed.
    • Willingness to learn and possibly work across both our divisions (deep excavation and civil site services)
    • Must be local to the Lower Mainland

    • Unionized base wage of $41.33 per hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidates experience) plus 13% of gross earnings for vacation / statutory holiday pay.
