Duties
As a member of the Academic Advising Center & New Student Orientation the Academic Advisor: Provides educational information about college academic programs and services for prospective and currently enrolled students; Orients new students toward an informed and successful start to their college experience; Assists students in assessing their interest and abilities by examining their educational goals making decisions and developing short and long-term educational plans to meet their planned objectives; Interprets and reviews college placement examinations Advanced Placement (AP) ACT / SAT scores IB and CLEP (College Level Examination Placement) to ensure proper course selection; Provides accurate and timely information related to Career Programs and Transfer courses; Demonstrates knowledge about educational institutional corporate and community resources as well as other college-wide programs and services. Presents on Academic Advising services to groups of students classes parents and/or college staff. Provides programming and interventions in which Academic Advisors directly support students.
Qualifications
This position requires a strong commitment to student-centered learning that focuses on the development and success of the student; candidates should possess knowledge of academic advising theories and practices that support teaching learning and human development; prior experience working with a variety of students that include various levels of academic preparedness multicultural and linguistic diversity and economic status; individuals with fluency in more than one language are encouraged to apply.
