Job Description

The institute is home to two academic minors one in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and another in Human Rights the latter offered in partnership with Fairhaven College

Goals of the institute:

  • Provide our students with a global education rooted in the liberal arts that investigates the Holocaust genocide and crimes against humanity from various perspectives and academic disciplines
  • Address the states recommendation to teach the Holocaust in schools by giving future teachers this background
  • Promote the development of cohesive inter- and transdisciplinary courses with a strong commitment to innovative teaching and scholarly rigor
  • Broaden public awareness and knowledge of the Holocaust genocide and crimes against humanity by creating scholarly and educational programming

About the Position

This position provides administrative fiscal program event and communication support to facilitate the daily operations of the Ray Wolpow Institute for the Study of the Holocaust Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity. The institutes mission is to advance knowledge about the Holocaust genocide and mass violations of human rights. Home to a minor in Holocaust & Genocide Studies and in Human Rights the institute also creates educational and scholarly programming for the university and the community. The institutes support staff communicates regularly interacts with diverse internal and external audiences (e.g. government officials leaders from different religious communities and ethnic groups) requiring sensitive and professional communication.

This position is a permanent half-time 9-month cyclical position. It is located on campus with the flexibility to work remotely contingent upon department needs and university policy.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Three years of progressively responsible office experience or equivalent education/experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to effectively serve a diverse staff student and faculty community
  • Excellent verbal written and interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated ability to independently generate correspondence of a professional quality and to professionally communicate with a diverse set of people (i.e. students faculty community leaders professionals scholars)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience producing tables/charts/graphs forms labels and correspondence with emphasis upon accuracy and appearance of output
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and multitask while managing time effectively and meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Familiarity with academic settings; ability to work across centers institutes departments colleges and the campus community
  • Prior successful experience planning and staging events
  • Knowledge of basic WWU systems such as e-sign forms reservation procedures etc.
  • Experience maintaining a website (e.g. Drupal and/or other Web development platform) and social media
  • Experience with Banner Web4U CANVAS/InDesign or similar
