_{Position Summary}

_{The RN Labor and Delivery provides patient-centered nursing care across the full spectrum of perinatal services including labor delivery postpartum neonatal care and recovery from C-section procedures. The RN will work collaboratively with physicians midwives and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe high-quality outcomes for mothers and infants while supporting family-centered care.}

_{Key Responsibilities} _{Labor Delivery & Postpartum Care}

_{Provide focused 1:1 labor support including patient monitoring interventions vaginal exams pain management and comfort measures.}
_{Monitor and interpret fetal heart rate tracings using current NICHD standards.}
_{Assist with deliveries OB procedures and newborn assessments.}
_{Provide education and breastfeeding support to new mothers.}
_{Care for patients recovering from C-sections including pain management wound care and discharge planning.}
_{Manage high-risk obstetric or neonatal cases stabilize and prepare for transport if necessary.}

_{Clinical Practice & Patient Care}

_{Conduct thorough nursing assessments including patient history physical exams and care planning.}
_{Administer age-appropriate medications and treatments monitor patient responses and adjust care accordingly.}
_{Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to implement and evaluate individualized care plans.}
_{Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all nursing interventions assessments and patient education.}
_{Serve as a patient advocate and provide emotional psychological and informational support to patients and families.}

_{Education & Leadership}

_{Educate patients and families on labor delivery recovery and newborn care.}
_{Participate in staff education and departmental in-services.}
_{Serve as a resource for CNAs and junior nursing staff.}
_{Take initiative in unit goal setting and quality improvement activities.}

_{Compliance & Professional Development}

_{Adhere to hospital policies infection control protocols and ACOG standards.}
_{Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the seven Standards of Excellence.}
_{Attend required meetings complete competencies and participate in ongoing professional development.}
_{Fulfill on-call requirements and float to other units as needed.}

_{Supervisory Responsibilities}

_{May provide guidance and supervision to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other support staff.}

_{Education Certifications & Licensure}

_Required:
- _{Current unrestricted RN license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license must be obtained prior to start).}
- _{High school diploma or equivalent.}
- _{Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.}
_{Required within 6 months of hire:}
- _{Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)}
- _{Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)}
- _{Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)}
_Preferred:
- _{Commissioned Corps Officers must meet billet description for O-2 to O-3.}

_Experience

_Preferred:
- _{At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience.}
- _{Previous experience in Labor and Delivery or perinatal nursing.}
