Job Summary

Position Overview:

The Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher atClarke Elementary School provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) federal and state laws and district guidelines. The EC teacher collaborates with general education staff support personnel administrators and families to ensure student success and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities based on IEP goals and objectives.

  • Develop implement monitor and revise Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and data collection to measure student growth and guide instructional decisions.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to IEPs evaluations services accommodations and progress reports.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and appropriate classroom accommodations/modifications.

  • Participate in eligibility IEP and reevaluation meetings as the case manager or contributing team member.

  • Deliver specially designed instruction using research-based strategies tailored to the individual needs of students.

  • Utilize assistive technology and differentiated instructional methods to enhance student engagement and success.

  • Support students in transitioning to post-secondary goals including college career and independent living.

  • Maintain compliance with timelines for evaluations IEP meetings and documentation.

  • Implement behavioral intervention plans and positive behavior supports as needed.

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.

  • Collaborate with school-based and district-level support staff including school psychologists speech therapists OTs/PTs and counselors.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to special education best practices legal updates and instructional strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • Bachelors degree in Special Education or related field

    • NC Teaching License in Exceptional Children (General Curriculum or Adapted Curriculum)

    • Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA IEP development and compliance procedures

  • Preferred:

    • Experience working in a high school setting

    • Proficiency in case management systems (e.g. ECATS)

    • Strong collaboration and communication skills

    • Experience with co-teaching inclusion and transition planning
