For over 30 years the Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) has proudly served immigrants and refugees. We help children stay safe families remain together and newcomers navigate life in New York City. While our doors are open to all AAFSC has expertise in serving Arab Middle Eastern North African Muslim and South Asian communities.

JOB SUMMARY:

TheDeputy Director of Preventive Services serves as a key member of AAFSCs Preventive Leadership team driving strategic outreach partnership development and program performance across New York City. This new position at AAFSC will provide direct support to Preventive Services teams across boroughs ensuring program implementation aligns with best practices as well as the requirements and expectations of the NYC Administration for Childrens Services (ACS). In addition the Deputy Director will offer steady leadership during staff transitions to support continuity in operations and service delivery.

In close coordination with the Vice President of Preventive & Anti-Violence Initiatives the Deputy Director will represent AAFSC and its best-in-class child welfare programs at meetings with ACS philanthropic funders the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA) and other partners helping to maintain strong external relationships.

Finally the Deputy Director will lead AAFSCs city-wide child welfare outreach initiatives ensuring our Preventive Services program is widely known by partner organizations connecting with families in need of support with appropriate services while also meeting ACSs program utilization requirements. To do this successfully the Deputy Director will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholdersincluding schools hospitals service providers and community-based organizationsto improve service accessibility.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and dynamic leader with strong analytical coaching and communication skills who will drive program excellence and foster a culture of collaboration success for our staff and clients and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strengthening Partnerships Outreach and Program Utilization Efforts

As part of AAFSCs commitment to expanding access and deepening community impact the Deputy Director will work closely with Preventive Leadership to build strong relationships support outreach efforts and help advance program goals by:
  • Collaborating with leadership to improve outreach strategies by reviewing data identifying trends and suggesting thoughtful improvements.
  • Supporting the planning and facilitation of outreach events that connect communities to vital services and helping identify and grow partnerships with service providers schools hospitals and community-based organizations.
  • Ensuring outreach efforts align with broader goals around program utilization community engagement and service accessibility.
  • Supporting program directors in strengthening outreach planning and execution by providing strategic guidance reviewing referral data and assisting in the development of approaches that align with ACS utilization requirements.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the five boroughsincluding COFCCA ACS and funderswith occasional travel for convenings.

Program Leadership Mentorship Coaching and Support:

The Deputy Director will play a pivotal role in supporting program leadership across AAFSCs sites fostering a collaborative and resilient team culture. Through hands-on coaching supervision and operational guidance the Deputy Director ensures that program leaders are well-equipped to navigate challenges enhance service delivery and uphold AAFSCs mission by:
  • Providing strategic and operational support promoting cross-site collaboration and consistency in service standards and offering mentorship and professional development to strengthen team capacity.
  • Maintaining a consistent in-person presence across AAFSCs sites to provide hands-on support and build strong relationships with Preventive teams.
  • Partnering with the VP and Preventive Leadership to implement strategies that promote staff well-being and retention including workload management team-building and wellness initiatives.
  • Providing interim leadership coverage during extended staff leave including serving as Acting Program Director or supporting directors covering supervisory roles.
  • Contributing to the development of internal policies procedures and formal communications with funders and external partners.
  • Collaborating with the VP and Preventive Leadership to support audit processes including participating in site visits and assisting with follow-up and communication as needed.
  • Performing additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned in alignment with organizational needs and priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES OF OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  • Masters degree or equivalent graduate degree;
  • Demonstrated experience fostering collaborative cross-functional teams with the ability to coach and support team members in developing their leadership capacity.
  • Previous experience as a senior leader in Preventive and Social Services with at least 5 years of executive/senior level experience;
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to manage crises and attend convenings.
  • Strong experience developing policy protocols procedures and training curricula;
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office and project management software;
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills;
  • Job contingent on pre-employment background check;
  • U.S. Work Authorization is required.
