Pawtucket School DepartmentArt TeacherThe Pawtucket School Department is seeking a school art the direction of the school administrator the classroom teacher will implement the art educationcurriculum. Position Summary:Instruct students in art such as: different media techniques and subject matter integration of art withother subjects and reflections of their work. Prepares lesson plans and establishes course goals based onNational Visual Art GSEs and the Common Core Standards for Literacy and Math. Selects book and artsupplies for courses. Demonstrates new methods and procedures to students. Observes and evaluatesstudents work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement. May plan andaccompany students on field trips. May teach students with Duties and Responsibilities: Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated. Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests andabilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturityand interest of the students. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request ofimmediate supervisor. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony withthe goalsestablishes clear objectives for all lessons units projects and the like tocommunicate these objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with thephysical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals orstudent groups involved. Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education andinstructional goals and objectives. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports asrequired. May identify learning disabilities of students seeking the assistance of district specialist asrequired. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials andfacilities. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy andadministrative regulations. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life andconduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedureand maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposesoutside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. May confer with other teachers regarding art needs/projects based on teacher instructionalmethod. May perform other duties as requested by the Principal or his/her Knowledgeable of and Skilled at: Instructional techniques Assessment techniques Professional Learning Communities Differentiated instruction techniques Managing classroom procedures and behaviors Organizes physical space to create a safe accessible and resource-rich environment Preparing and maintaining accurate records RTI (Response to intervention) PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) Cultural competency Conflict resolution Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups Able to work effectively with administrators colleagues central office school based staffstudents parents and the community Work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans Meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team Reflective practitioner; strives to maintain and improve professional competenceLicensure/ Certificate Requirements: The position requires a valid RI Certification in Art Grades - PK-12.
