Job Summary

The entry level Research Assistant I (RA) will support a study looking at Health Information Exchange (HIE) during Inter-Hospital Transfer (IHT). The study will work towards improving the health IT platform to improve clinical information exchange when patients are transferred between other acute care hospitals and BWH with a goal of improving access to clinical information of transferred patients at time of transfer. Ultimately by improving access to necessary clinical information at time of patient transfer we aim to improve the quality and safety of inter-hospital transfers.


Qualifications

The entry level Research Assistant I (RA) will support a study looking at Health Information Exchange (HIE) during Inter-Hospital Transfer (IHT). The study will work towards improving the health IT platform to improve clinical information exchange when patients are transferred between other acute care hospitals and BWH with a goal of improving access to clinical information of transferred patients at time of transfer. Ultimately by improving access to necessary clinical information at time of patient transfer we aim to improve the quality and safety of inter-hospital transfers.

The RA is expected to work within a multidisciplinary and multi-site research RA with a high level of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills is required to provide first line support for queries from study stakeholders and RA will possess excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills.

Specific activities include participant recruitment (participants include clinicians including physicians and advanced practice providers) data collection data cleaning and analysis and may vary depending on the phases of the project. The RA will support all activities associated with the execution of the research plan including Institutional Review Board (IRB) amendments progress reports to the sponsor and organizing communication with participants and project staff. The RA will use MS Access Excel REDCap MAXQDA to assist with data collection and analysis. The RAs responsibilities will also include administrative tasks and literature searches.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform daily tasks involving participant recruitment communication and tracking
  • Utilize MS Access Excel REDCap and MAXQDA to assist in data collection efforts database development and descriptive data analysis. (In-house MS Access/REDCap training is available.)
  • Assist with preparation ofInstitutional Review Board(IRB) documentation and forms for study protocol approvals and amendments.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for submission to granting agency
  • Utilize Epic BWHs electronic health record (EHR) in conjunction with data collection efforts
  • Schedule conference calls; prepare agendas and pre-meeting materials
  • Coordinate organize and take minutes for core team meetings evaluation team meetings and user-centered design sessions and focus groups.
  • Perform general topic searches and specialized literature database searches. Retrieve journal articles from the Internet or library. Maintain a bibliographic library of supporting material.
  • Help with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides tables and graphs.
  • Assist with the preparation of formal research reports abstracts and manuscripts for publication in professional journals and presentation at national/international conferences.
  • Document project work communicate study materials to participating clinicians and other administrative duties as required.


Additional Job Details (if applicable)

  • Bachelors Degree and an interest in healthcare improvement of healthcare processes and the use of technology to support clinical care.
  • Certification in the protection of human research subjects (can be obtained after hire)
  • Competency in Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel.
  • Experience with data management including using word-processing spreadsheet MS Access database software REDCap and EndNote preferred.
  • Familiarity with videoconference equipment and webinar set up.
