Purpose of Job

Responsible for doing inspections on Pipeline Operations network assets to prevent and minimise the risk of third-party intervention and subsequent damage to the gas pipeline network and other Pipeline Operations assets

Key Accountabilities

Conduct visual inspections on gas station and pipeline related equipment

Conduct site meetings

Issue permits and perform safe making duties

Perform safety standby duties when required

Conduct pipeline safety awareness

Report all unsafe conditions to line manager and load notifications

Examine equipment and complete safety checklist

Respond to emergencies

Operate pressure reduction and customer metering stations on the pipeline network

Inspect and operate the pigging receiver station

Operate the valve on the gas/fuel pipe line network

Responsible for Cathodic Protection recordings

Conduct housekeeping of stations

Perform planting and painting of route markers

Grass cutting inside stations and on the servitude

Maintain pipeline routes

Conduct fault finding and incident investigations

Liaise with stakeholders (e.g. local communities municipal representatives)

Perform overtime call out and be on standby when required

Manage allocated vehicle (cleanliness)

Manage allocated Sasol cell phone tablet and GPS unit

Formal Education

Grade 12 with Maths Science and English or N3 Maths & Engineering Science (must)

NQF certificate in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation (wish/preference)

N certificate in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation (wish/preference)

Valid Code 10 drivers license and ability to drive (must)

Work Experience

Maintenance Operator Gr2: Mechanical 1 year experience as Trainee Gas Pipeline Controller Maintenance Operator/Assistant OR Process Controller

Maintenance Operator Gr 1: Mechanical 2-year experience as Gas Pipeline Controller Gr 2 Maintenance Operator Gr 2 OR Process Controller Gr 2

Additional experience required:

  • PtW issuing competency
  • Safety Standby and Gas monitor experience
  • OSH Act experience (wish)
  • Computer literacy
  • Basic hand tools
