Executive Council includes the Office of the Premier Deputy Ministers and Associate Deputy Ministers Offices Cabinet Coordination and Ministry Services Policy Coordination Office and Intergovernmental and International Relations.
The Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) division leads the coordination and advancement of Albertas priorities as they relate to other governments across Canada. IGR works with other ministries across the Government of Alberta to develop collaborative approaches and expand multilateral and bilateral partnerships.

Join the Executive Councils Intergovernmental Relations team as Associate Director Federal-Provincial Relations and play a pivotal role in advancing Albertas interests within the Canadian federation.
What Youll Do
As a senior advisor and team leader youll:
- Drive Albertas strategic presence at First Ministers meetings the Council of the Federation Western Premiers Conference and bilateral Premier-level engagements.
- Lead the development of high-impact briefing materials that inform and support the Premiers intergovernmental priorities.
- Negotiate and shape federal provincial and territorial meeting agendas communications and outcomes that reflect Albertas policy positions.
- Monitor and analyze intergovernmental trends ensuring Alberta is proactive and well-positioned in a dynamic political landscape.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with federal provincial and territorial counterparts across Canada.
- Mentor and lead a small team of intergovernmental officers fostering collaboration and excellence.
Were looking for a strategic thinker and skilled communicator with:
- Expertise in intergovernmental affairs public policy and jurisdictional responsibilities.
- Strong negotiation and facilitation skills with the ability to balance diverse perspectives and drive consensus.
- Exceptional analytical and writing abilities capable of producing clear concise and impactful policy materials.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to lead projects and work effectively across ministries and governments.
