Responsibilities
The Actuarial Interns role is to support actuarial analyses required to estimate expected losses for insurance products on an individual policy level or across a portfolio of policies. The Actuarial Intern will primarily support the pricing function within the MEC Actuarial Department.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Produce and deliver actuarial analysis inputs (exposure loss and coverage data) on individual accounts to support the insurance quote process in-force book maintenance and client service deliverables.
- Complete updates and enhancements to processes as directed and support individual project research and analysis.
- Communicate with team members regarding any issues with account data.
Qualifications
- Pursuit of a Bachelors degree in the field of mathematics statistics actuarial science or another similar quantitative field.
- Work experience in a professional office environment is preferred.
- Pursuit of actuarial designation through the CAS or SOA is preferred.
- Advanced analytical and mathematical skills.
- Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Excellent active and reflective listener.
- Intermediate knowledge of basic data analysis tools like Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new concepts and tasks at a reasonable pace.
- Experience collaborating in a team-oriented environment.
- Willing to ask for help when needed.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and complete multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner.
- Basic creative problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of advanced data analysis tools such as SQL (including query writing) and/or Power BI preferred.
- Knowledge of R Python or related modeling software preferred.
- Reside in the greater St. Louis area
- Ability to reliably commute to our office in Chesterfield MO
- Working at our office is expected throughout the year.
- 12-18 hours per week during the school year
- Full-time hours during winter and summer breaks
