The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations who meet the requirements below. The external salary range is used for candidates who are not NJ state employees who meet the requirements below.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Central Utility Plant Operations the Supervisor of the Electrical Shop is responsible for the supervision of the Electrical Shop. The Electrical Shop consists of 5 staff members responsible for the performance of work including but not limited to installation construction repair rebuilding and maintenance of electrical fixtures and equipment which involves the general and comprehensive responsibility for its efficient functioning; does related work as required. The Supervisor is responsible for working with contractors and maintaining documentation for backup electrical generators repairs and PMs and maintaining records coordinating and planning PMs and repairs to main feeder transformers breakers MCCs and related equipment to all buildings.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage the work of five employees in the Electrical Shop.

  • Supervise all work performed by employees including the planning of daily emergencies and work orders including but not limited to the installation repair and maintenance of electrical equipment appliances circuits fire alarms etc.

  • Supervise Contracted External Elevator Technician 40 hours a week. Supervise the installation maintenance and repair of electrical wiring light fixtures motors generators pumps and appliances.

  • Inspect and supervise work of outside contractors who provide inspection and maintenance on high voltage equipment that includes main power incoming switches dry and oil filled transformers at the power plant and all 40 plus building on campus.

  • Create daily work schedules and coordinates project schedules in advance to make sure work gets completed on time.

  • Plan daily tasks aligned with work orders received for campus needs.

  • Inspect electrical work completed by assigned employees in more than 40 buildings on campus.

  • Ensure work is completed that is aligned with college state and federal standards and NFPA 70.

  • Inspect electrical supplies to buildings and the supplies are in stock before the start of work or a project.
  • Work with other supervisors and facilities management in planning and scheduling preventative maintenance assignments.

  • Manage projects to alleviate the need for preventative maintenance in the near future.

  • Ensure the employees within my Shop stay in compliance with building codes NFPA 70. Work is conduct in a safe manner and adheres to NFPA 70E requirements.

  • Develop and maintain work plans and procedures for the installation repair and maintenance of motors wiring cables and high voltage power feeders in conjunction with the power plant. Also develop and maintain and repair all electrical equipment appliances and electrical circuits on campus.
  • Manage the annual budget for the Shop including monitoring expenses and estimating budget funding needed for departmental accounts.

  • Maintain and manage documents associated with purchase order requests including but not limited to quotes bids etc.

  • Manage multiple contractual agreements between TCNJ and external vendors including but not limited to meeting with vendors working closely with Business Administrator in reviewing contractual agreements ensure budget is established for contractual agreements and maintaining documentation for all agreements.

  • Meet with the Business Administrator to review budget and determine steps/actions that must take place to ensure accounts do not go into the negative.
  • Assist the HR in the recruitment to fill vacant positions in the Shop including the review of resumes interviewing recommending applicants for hire.

  • Take part in search committees for other positions in Facilities.

  • Work with management team to review and create work programs and procedures.

  • Complete bi-annual and annual performance evaluations for 5 employees using the PAR forms.

  • Recommend training and improvement plans for employees not meeting expectations of performance.
  • Responsible for the procurement maintenance and repair of radio communication equipment for all of the Facilities Department.
  • Order store safeguard and supervise the use of electrical equipment materials and supplies. Work directly with more than 15 vendors and supply companies to make sure that all necessary materials are in stock and ready for use.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience in professional facility management/supervisory work including the management of equipment supplies and professional electrical service preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of policies procedures and methods of the installation construction repair rebuilding and maintenance of electrical fixtures and equipment which involves the general and comprehensive responsibility for its efficient functioning; Knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E requirements.

  • Ability to assist in planning and coordinating work of the unit including setting goals planning and implementing work programs and developing policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the problems which arise in planning and laying out work for Electricians and other employees assigned to various types of maintenance work.

  • Ability to keep necessary records.

  • Knowledge of procedures and methods effective in large scale higher education environment specific to facilities management.
