Position Description
JOB DUTIES
- Review and interpret plans specifications and code requirements; communicate requirements to design professionals permit applicants contractors and tenants ensuring their understanding of codes and ordinances while achieving their cooperation and compliance.
- Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the MAC Design and Construction Standards; complete reviews of applicable sections of the document provide input and participate in the MAC Design and Construction Standards change approval process.
- Assist with the resolution of disputes between MAC contractors and other individuals related to the interpretation/application of building codes discrepancies investigations of nonconformance and other issues.
- Ensure permit issuance meets established timeline requirements; ensure consultant plan reviews are completed timely throughout design process; and ensure timely scheduling of inspections to avoid causing project delays and construction code violations.
- Maintain accurate inspection records routinely partner with MAC Trades to complete compliance inspections and initiate action(s) to correct building code violations.
- Maintain a general understanding of all active projects related to the MAC.
- Remain current on new electrical plumbing building heating and ventilation materials installation procedures and revised code and ordinance requirements.
- Remain current on trends in airport construction and the aviation industry.
- Coordinate with Airport Development to ensure that construction issues or concerns are incorporated into the design decision making process.
- Participate in constructability reviews and/or design reviews of architectural or civil engineering plans that are completed by airport tenants or airlines for tenant-owned buildouts; by MAC-hired consultants for MAC projects; or by other agencies and have potential impacts to MAC airports.
- Act as a liaison and point of contact for tenant build-out projects act as the construction inspector on behalf of MAC for these projects.
- Demonstrate creativity foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unpredictable project problems.
- Provide technical expertise and staff assistance as requested.
- Provide effective credible representation of the departments activities to the public airport users airport tenants consultants contractors and when necessary the Commission.
- Participate as directed in the selection of consultants for Airport Development work in accordance with the Commissions Consultants Selection and Use Policy.
- Participate as directed in the Airport Development continuing consultant annual performance reviews.
- Collaborate with architects engineers MAC Police and Fire construction and building specialists and others as necessary to resolve problems or emergencies.
- Provide expertise and be a resource providing input on how MAC can obtain optimum usage and maximum service life of MAC pavements infrastructure and/or facilities.
- Prepare staff reports and project specific memoranda if necessary for the MAC Committee/Commission agenda packets.
- Prepare and oversee the department budget.
- Perform duties in a manner that supports MACs commitment to the community and the environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in architecture Engineering Construction Management Project Management or a related field.
- Six years of experience as a building official performing building inspections construction and/or construction inspection management.
- In lieu of a degree ten years of experience as a building official performing building inspections construction and/or construction inspection management.
- Current Minnesota Certified Building Official Certification
- Thorough knowledge of building codes including state and local regulations and codes affecting construction health and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility.
- Thorough knowledge of structural principles and practices public safety and sound engineering and construction practices.
- Experience multi-tasking managing time and priorities while contributing to a wide range of building safety programs and initiatives.
- Experience coordinating with governmental agencies private developers contractors engineers and architects to ensure timely project completion and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Experience resolving building code issues and/or conflicts.
- Experience working collaboratively with state and county construction officials (e.g. State Electrical Inspector Department of Health etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including presenting to large groups.
- Intermediate skill level Microsoft Outlook Word and Microsoft Excel
- Valid state drivers license and reliable transportation to commute between job sites.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time climb ladders access rooftops and safely move throughout construction worksites.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Building inspection experience at a medium and/or large hub air carrier commercial airport.
- Construction inspection experience with food beverage or retail build outs/improvements.
- Complex project planning and construction experience with large complicated buildings or with multi-building campuses.
- Current I.C.C. Building Inspector Certification or equivalent

- Experience managing a budget.
