Job Summary

Position Summary

Continued employment is contingent upon funding.
This position is not tenure eligible.

This position is primarily focused and responsible for providing guidance support and resources to adult education students and out-of-school youth to help them achieve academic career and personal success. This role focuses on assisting individuals in developing career pathways setting employment and education goals and overcoming barriers to success. The Career Coach works closely with program staff community partners training providers and employers to connect participants with educational opportunities job readiness training internships and employment. Responsibilities include career assessments resume and interview preparation job search assistance and ongoing mentoring to ensure participants transition successfully into postsecondary education training or the workforce.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E3 Grade 04: $39759 - $57251

(Salary within this range is determined by your documented years of full-time related work experience)



Work Hours: Monday through Thursday 7:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.; Friday 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Represent and promote the Career Coach initiative in alignment with Adult Education and WIOA Youth Grant goals and objectives.
  2. Assist students with career assessments and career exploration activities.
  3. Collaboratively develop effective presentations and activities to facilitate career exploration activities and soft skills training.
  4. Conduct classroom presentations related to career readiness and career opportunities.
  5. Schedule and host business industry and college tours for students.
  6. Coordinate job shadowing and work-based learning opportunities for students in conjunction with local business and industry and Calhoun Career Services.
  7. Develop and maintain partnerships with agencies and organizations affiliated with the Career Coach initiative.
  8. Engage in career assessment training and continuously monitor enrollment processes.
  9. Facilitate orientation sessions for new students which could include AM and PM sessions.
  10. Provide advising and career services to current and potential students.
  11. Provide individual case-management for students to develop individual service strategies (ISS) address student barriers and monitor student progress.
  12. Work with Calhoun Workforce Solutions and area Career Centers to determine student WIOA eligibility and establish ITAs for students.
  13. Regularly engage in professional learning activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.
  14. Use technology effectively for word processing record-keeping instructional applications electronic communication information and data management.
  15. Will conduct data-entry for AAESAP (Alabama Adult Education System for Accountability and Performance) and Alabama Works as necessary.
  16. Comply with policies of the State Board of Education the Department of Postsecondary Education and the College.
  17. Travel to service area schools and training sessions as needed and instructed by program Director.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution is required.
  2. Experience in advising guiding or counseling individuals and/or groups is required.
  3. Experience in the use of current educational technologies in the workplace including word processing spreadsheet database and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel etc.) is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments
  1. Experience in an educational setting.
  2. Effective human relations skills professionalism enthusiasm and commitment to career exploration.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Knowledge of current employment trends.
  5. Knowledge of Calhoun Community College and the Alabama Community College System and WIOA.
  6. Knowledge of technical and terminal programs and curriculum.
  7. Knowledge of FERPA.
  8. Ability to utilize and search the internet for information.
  9. Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues.
  10. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  11. Ability to work and communicate with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  12. Ability to utilize email systems to communicate information.
  13. Ability to work with minimal supervision/ work independently.
  14. Ability to operate in a professional manner at all times.
  15. Ability to greet individuals of any background with friendliness tact and courtesy.
  16. Ability to operate in high pressure situations and respond to issues in a calm manner.
  17. Conscientious- wanting to care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job.
