Purpose of Position/Summary:
Distinguishing Characteristics
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
-
Take and record temperature blood pressure pulse and respiration; collect blood and specimens for testing; perform catheterization and colostomy care; continue and discontinue intravenous fluids; administer medications according to the patient care plan.

Screen patients and record medical information; assist physician and registered nurses in examinations and treatments; set up and clean examination area; administer injections and immunizations; instruct clients in the use of medications and self-care procedures.

Observe record and report to appropriate persons the physical and mental condition of the patient and signs and symptoms which may be indicative of change.

Administer nursing care treatments to wounds incisions ostomy and tracheotomy sites; administer oxygen; insert and/or replace nasogastric tubes.

Inventory controlled medications complete medication usage reports and control records.
-
Participate in the review and implementation of procedures designed to ensure comfort and safety of patients.

Perform specialized nursing functions.
-
Provide for the emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients.
-
Assist patients with activities of daily living such as grooming and personal hygiene and encourage appropriate self-care capabilities.
-
Discuss patient care and progress with physicians and registered nurses.
-
Assist with the rehabilitation of patients according to the patient care plan.
-
Carry out preventive measures in community health facilities such as childrens clinics maternity clinics and out-patient clinics.

Assign work and provide guidance to unlicensed health personnel.
-
Perform first aid emergency and disaster measures according to established procedure.
-
This will be for a six (6) month contract and up to 40 hours per week.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-
Knowledge of practical nursing procedures.
-
Knowledge of human physiology and anatomy.
-
Knowledge of the emotional impact of health problems and the role of the nurse in self-care programs and patient rehabilitation.
-
Knowledge and understanding of the organization of the patient care unit and the roles responsibilities and record deviations in patient condition.
-
Skill in the performance of CPR.
-
Skill in routine medical procedures i.e.: applying bandages securing tourniquets giving injections measuring temperature pulse respiration blood pressure etc.
-
Ability to maintain accurate medical records of treatments medications symptoms and patient conditions.
-
Ability to relate to patients and family members and to motivate self-care capabilities.
-
Ability to direct the work of unlicensed nursing personnel.
-
Ability to respond to potentially life-threatening situations.
-
Ability to exercise sound judgment.
-
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications:
Prefer the individual to have LTC knowledge and experience.
The individual must be on time willing to work rotating shifts including weekend shifts able to work 12 hour shifts and willing to be mandated to meet the needs for the facility and its requirements . State dress code applies as well as DHHR/DHF/OSA policies and procedures. The candidate must have an active status with current Licensure with no actions against license have CPR and First Aid certification from the American Heart Association.
