Design Engineering Manager

Phiston seeks an experienced dynamic motivated self-starter to join and lead our R&D Team. Join a small but growing leader in the technology and data security space!

As a Solidworks Engineering Manager you will play a pivotal role in both the management and the hands-on development of our product designs. This role demands a balance of leadership skills and technical proficiency in Solidworks with a 50/50 split between managing the engineering team and contributing to design efforts.

You will oversee the development of complex mechanical designs ensuring they meet quality functionality and manufacturability parallel you will lead mentor and develop a team of talented engineers fostering an environment of continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities:

• Managing and creating accurate 3D models and comprehensive 2D drawings of mechanical and electrical components and assemblies using SolidWorks in accordance with Phiston Technologies design standards.
• Manage a team of engineers to develop production-ready drawing packages and ensure they meet deadlines budget constraints and quality standards.
• Collaborating with the Manufacturing team to develop innovative design solutions and enhance existing designs through value engineering.
• Coordinating and overseeing the work of project teams including engineers technicians and other professionals.
• Ensuring product designs comply with engineering drawing standards (ISO/ANSI) and are tailored for manufacturability including complete tolerance schemes in SI units.
• Enhance and manage a comprehensive revision control system to ensure all documentation is current and accurate throughout the product lifecycle.
• Supervise the systematic assignment of part numbers to facilitate organized inventory and project management
• Leveraging your expertise in sheet metal design electronic packaging material selection reliability assessment mechanism design instrument design and automation to elevate product performance and functionality.
• Developing electrical schematics interconnect diagrams and wire harnesses to integrate mechanical and electrical components seamlessly.
• Designing test equipment and tools to facilitate comprehensive testing and validation processes.
• Generating Bills of Materials (BOMs) and specifying component details for accurate procurement and assembly procedures.
• Conducting FEA analysis to ensure the reliability and safety of designs.
• Preparing DFMEA and FMEA reports to identify and mitigate potential risks in the design and manufacturing processes.
• Stay abreast of the latest in design techniques tools and best practices in Solidworks and related technologies.
• Perform market and competitor research to evaluate new products to build and enter the market
• Acting as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders including clients suppliers and internal departments.
• Identifying and mitigating project risks and resolving any issues that arise during the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

• A bachelors degree in Mechanical Electrical Mechatronics or related Engineering fields.
• A minimum of ten years of work experience in a relevant engineering domain and 5 years in a managerial role.
• Expert proficiency in Solidworks including 3D CAD modeling simulation and data management.
• A deep understanding of mechanical and electrical design principles and practices.
• Familiarity with engineering drawing standards (ISO/ANSI) and tolerance analysis.
• Expertise in sheet metal design electronic packaging mechanism design and automation.
• Experience in creating electrical schematics interconnect diagrams and wire harnesses.
• Proficiency in test equipment and tool design.
• Excellent written and verbal communication leadership and team-building skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Proven experience in project management with the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering projects from conception to completion.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and design for manufacturing is a plus
• Strong skills in FEA analysis and experience with DFMEA and FMEA reporting.
