Junior Achievement of Central Virginia (JACV) is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy. Serving thousands of students annually across the region JACV delivers hands-on programs in financial literacy work readiness and entrepreneurship. With a dedicated team of 8 staff members and a robust network of volunteers JACV partners closely with local schools businesses and community leaders to empower the next generation.
Position Summary
The President & CEO serves as the chief executive of JACV responsible for the strategic operational and financial leadership of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors the CEO will drive mission impact ensure organizational sustainability and cultivate strong relationships across the education business and philanthropic sectors. This role requires a visionary leader with deep business acumen exceptional communication skills and a passion for youth development. This position will be based onsite full-time in Richmond VA at two locations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute long-term strategic plans aligned with JAs mission and values.
- Maintain a future-focused vision anticipating trends and opportunities in education and workforce development.
- Ensure alignment of organizational goals with community needs and national JA standards.
- Demonstrate strategic focus by identifying strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats.
- Apply business acumen to manage operations and financial resources effectively.
- Use seasoned judgment to make decisions that enhance organizational results.
Operational & Financial Management
- Oversee budgeting financial reporting and resource allocation to ensure fiscal health.
- Lead fundraising efforts including donor cultivation grant acquisition and corporate partnerships.
- Manage day-to-day operations across two Richmond locations ensuring program excellence and efficiency.
- Drive execution and ensure accountability for achieving business goals.
- Establish aggressive goals that ensure current and future sustainability.
Board & Governance
- Partner with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and strategic oversight.
- Facilitate effective board engagement recruitment and development.
- Align strategic priorities with board direction and JAs mission.
Team & Talent Development
- Lead mentor and develop a high-performing team of 8 staff members.
- Foster a collaborative inclusive and mission-driven culture.
- Ensure talent management practices that support growth accountability and innovation.
- Promote collaboration and remove barriers to teamwork.
- Manage talent excellence by attracting developing and retaining key staff.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Serve as the public face of JACV representing the organization to media donors educators and civic leaders.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with local school systems business leaders and community stakeholders.
- Advocate for youth education and workforce readiness across Central Virginia.
- Influence and inspire stakeholders by positioning JAs value proposition.
- Establish trust and demonstrate adaptability in dynamic environments.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent business experience.
- Minimum 4 years of leadership experience in nonprofit education or business sectors.
- Proven success in fundraising strategic planning and team management.
- Strong understanding of financial management and organizational operations.
- Excellent communication interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Commitment to ethical leadership and community impact.
Preferred:
- Experience working with public school systems and educational stakeholders.
- Familiarity with JA programs and/or youth development.
- CFRE certification or equivalent fundraising credentials.
