The Certified Autism Peer Specialist plays a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals on the autism spectrum by leveraging their lived experience and specialized training. The specialist collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop personalized support plans that address the unique needs of everyone. The Tools you need:

  • Certification as an Autism Peer Specialist from a recognized accrediting body.
  • Personal lived experience with autism either as an individual on the spectrum or as a close family member.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in peer support services.
  • Basic proficiency in documentation and use of digital tools for record-keeping.
  • Familiarity with local and regional autism-related resources and advocacy organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals with autism sharing lived experiences to foster understanding and trust.
  • Assist clients in developing coping strategies social skills and self-advocacy techniques tailored to their specific needs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers educators and family members to coordinate comprehensive care and support services.
  • Conduct outreach and educational sessions to raise awareness about autism and available community resources.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions progress and service plans in compliance with organizational policies.
