What Youll Do

  • Under the direction of laboratory manager conducts routine and non-routine analysis of samples via various methodologies to identify and/or confirm sample quality and/or variation.
  • Perform all aspects of analysis: including sample preparation using digestion extraction solubilization complexation ion exchange etc.; preparation of standards; calibration and standardization of instrumentation; routine preventive maintenance; diagnostic and quality control maintenance; interference correction methods; and data review.
  • Interface with customers and program managers to provide technical guidance on available analytical options and capabilities relevant to submitted analysis requests.
  • Work with laboratory manager to review and modernize current procedures as well as develop new methods and procedures for analytical services as technologies requirements and customer requirements evolve.
  • Work to evaluate and develop TIMS technique for Isotopic analysis of lithium matricees.
  • Work to review and modernize current oxygen analysis by Neutron Activation.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering/science: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
  • OR Masters degree in engineering/science: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
  • OR 12 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
  • In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Experience using Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry or other magnetic sector mass spectrometer.
  • Experience with Isotopic analysis of uranium or lithium samples.
  • Experience with oxygen analysis by Neutron Activation.
  • Experience with TIMS data review and approval.
  • Knowledgeable of basic computer programs such as Word Excel and Access
  • Ability to work in a team environment and have good communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Self motivated with a focus on setting goals achieving them and moving forward.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
