SUBSTITUTE PARAEDUCATOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Para Certificate or Post-Secondary Education preferred
- Experience in a K-12 education system and/or working with children preferred
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to different classroom environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Patience flexibility and a genuine interest in supporting student success
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOALS:
The Substitute Paraeducator provides support to students teachers and classroom staff by assisting with instructional behavioral and/or physical needs in the absence of the regular paraeducator. This role ensures continuity of support services helping maintain a safe inclusive and effective learning environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students individually or in small groups with academic activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Support students with Individual Education Plans including implementing accommodations and behavior support plans.
- Monitor student behavior and support positive behavior interventions.
- Provide supervision during classroom activities lunch recess and transitions including student arrival and departure.
- Help maintain a safe clean and organized learning environment.
- Support students with physical or personal care needs (if required and trained).
- Document observations and student progress as directed.
- Follow lesson plans routines and instructions left by the regular paraeducator teacher or Principal.
- Communicate professionally with staff students and others.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May work in general education or special education classrooms.
- May involve standing walking lifting or assisting students with physical needs.
- May include exposure to students with challenging behaviors.
- Schedule and assignments may vary based on daily staffing needs.
- Must be able to arrive at the scheduled assignment time.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a non-contract position. Substitute positions work on call as needed for various assignments/buildings throughout the district. Substitute Paraeducators will be required to work a minimum number of shifts/hours in order to remain as an active employee. Substitutes in good standing at the end of a school year may elect to return to their subbing position for the following school year. Work is available daily during the 175 days of the school year.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Districts policy on Evaluation State Statute and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
