Office of Criminal Justice Services
About Us:The Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the lead justice planning agency for the state of Ohio. OCJS administers grant funds to Ohios criminal justice constituents and coordinates Ohios comprehensive criminal justice plan. The agency safeguards federal and state criminal justice funds against waste to maximize the resources available in Ohios fight against crime. Grants are monitored for compliance audited for accuracy and evaluated for effectiveness.
OCJS also houses its own team of researchers and policy specialists who provide practitioners and policymakers with valuable information on many of the critical criminal justice issues facing our state. A substantial amount of this data is obtained from the Ohio Incident-Based Reporting System which is one of the states most significant justice technology links. Lastly OCJS facilitates several high-priority initiatives from the Governors office including the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and the Ohio Collaborative on Police-Community Relations.

Under the direction of the Financial Manager within the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) manage & coordinate a budget financial &/or sourcing program & have significant autonomy to formulate develop enforce &/or implement program policy:
Manage & monitor fiscal functions &/or services of state & federal criminal jus-tice programs & grants; Ensure programs & grant activities are in compliance with the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) federal regulations & supplemental federal agency guidance; Respond to any programmatic fiscal issues;
Oversee the completion of non-routine audits & specialized compliance reviews related to comprehensive statewide criminal justice programs; Develop coordinate & implement procedures for entities under audit;
Provide technical auditing & accounting guidance to staff as it relates to con-ducting internal audits grants monitoring & fiscal compliance review & analysis of quarterly subgrant reports;
Ensure all audit materials &/or reports summarizing activities findings & recommendations for improvement of deficiencies or noncompliance are finalized;
Serve as program liaison & provide technical assistance to agencies & providers; Offer solutions to improve internal controls &/or implementing corrective action;
Formulate & implement program policies & procedures performance measures & best practices; Research federal & state laws rules & regulations to aid in the development of administrative rules policies or procedures impacting audit &/or fiscal test functions; Communicate policy updates to all stakeholders;
Establish priorities & supervise subordinate personnel (e.g. provide developmental opportunities & work direction coach staff to foster development monitor staff activities to ensure quality customer service & information technology security evaluate performance approve section staffing levels recommend discipline pre-screen applications & participate in interviews);
Write cover letters for fiscal compliance reviews share with stakeholders & follow-up to ensure recommendations &/or corrective actions have been put into place;
Perform pre-risk assessments for submitted grant applications;
Provide quality control & assurance on QSRs for internal & external stakeholders;
Develop proposals & administer projects (i.e. define project requirements quality standards timelines etc.); Ensure scheduled timeframes are met & maintain regular contact with stakeholders in order to provide updates on project status;
Create & disseminate training resources & educational materials for internal & external stakeholders; Assist with providing training to participating partners or other stakeholders as needed;
Manage OCJS Fraud Waste & Abuse reporting portal;
Represent agency at meetings conferences &/or speaking engagements with state federal & community agencies;
Provide program & policy information &/or presentations to public/private organizations;
Research & respond to routine & non-routine correspondence inquiries &/or complaints from the general public government officials administrators &/or other staff;
Provide support to other Criminal Justice Planning sections as needed;
Direct &/or assist with special projects as assigned;
