If you are an environmental health & safety professional looking for an opportunity to grow Emerson has an exciting opportunity for an EHS & Continuous Improvement Leader based at our Orange VA location! This position leads directs and evaluates organizations programs regarding health safety property protection and environmental programs. Ensures compliance and recordkeeping requirements are met for all federal state and local agencies. Additionally this position drives operational excellence through lean manufacturing principles process optimization and employee engagement. This role supports cross-functional teams to identify and implement improvements that enhance safety quality delivery and performance.

In This Role Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Develop and implement various safety and environmental policies procedures and materials in accordance with Emerson policies and procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and conduct programs designed to improve morale and partner-wide communications.
  • Recommends measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accidents and health hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations; when necessary reduce or eliminate hazardous waste through source reduction and recycling.
  • Conduct and document annual compliance audits.
  • Implement and maintain a behavioral based safety process.
  • Manage all environmental permit requirements and permit applications.
  • Maintain EHS records and metrics in VelocityEHS software.
  • Serve as primary contact with all local state and federal safety health and environmental regulatory agencies
  • Facilitate the development of environmental and safety related training programs necessary to meet the needs of the company.
  • Responsible for all Governmental reporting and regulations as they relate to safety and environmental requirements.
  • Responsible for plant safety programs and associated training.
  • Administer certain safety functions such as safety committee workers compensation and safety incentive programs.
  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement lean manufacturing strategies across departments.
  • Analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
  • Coach and mentor employees on lean tools and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with leadership to align improvement efforts with strategic goals.
  • Track and report progress on improvement projects and key performance indicators.

Who Are You:

This is a dual role. You are a hands-on key member of the team that has the primary objective of ensuring a behavior-based work environment that is safe and healthy for all employees. You take a proactive approach to addressing EHS issues and providing timely feedback on actions and solutions.

You also lead cross-functional teams to identify and implement improvements that enhance safety quality delivery and cost performance. You have a strategic approach with a focus onresults and accountability. You are a strong communicator who can engage and motivate teams. You are comfortable challenging the status quo and driving are meticulous and data-driven.

For This Role You Will Need:

  • Technical Degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role 3 years.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA 30-hour or equivalent Certification (within first 6 months).
  • Excellent communication and facilitation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedures and write correspondence including employee memos and reports.
  • The ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • The ability to be on call for off shift emergencies.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • Environmental health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with human resources systems preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with value stream mapping 5S and root cause analysis.

Exceptions:

A combination of job-related experience and education is considered to be equivalent if deemed adequate by the Plant Manager.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee is required to walk sit talk hear and occasionally stand. When not in an office environment this employee will be around a shop environment with moderate noise levels. The employee will be required to be available for all shifts including attending meetings and functions before 8am and after 5pm. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Working Environment:

Normal office and production floor environment.
