The Department of Climate Change Energy the Environment & Water (DCCEEW) are seeking a detail oriented and motivated Financial Accountant to join our finance team and play a critical role in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting for the business.

About the role

As the Financial Accountant you will play a key role in supporting the Departments financial reporting and compliance obligations. You will work closely with the internal team to prepare statutory financial statements month-end Treasury reports and other statutory requirements. This role involves reviewing and refining accounting policies reconciling general ledger accounts and analysing monthly operating results to ensure data accuracy and financial integrity.

If you are someone who enjoy both the technical and collaborative aspects of accounting. You will work closely with finance teams auditors and a broad range of stakeholders across the Departments diverse network of agencies where the ability to balance standardised processes with the need for flexibility will be essential to your success.

We are looking for someone who can work independently manage multiple priorities and communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance teams. If you are someone who enjoys bringing structure to complexity thrives under pressure and takes ownership of their work and is committed to delivering high-quality financial outcomes this could be the perfect role for you. Please note additional hours and occasional weekend work may be required during peak reporting periods.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have experience preparing complex financial statements navigating accounting standards and working confidently with auditors in a fast-paced environment.

You will bring:

  • Proven expertise in preparing statutory financial statements and month-end reporting within a government or large organisation
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail especially when reviewing financial data
  • Sound knowledge of accounting standards Treasury policies and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal to convey complex financial information to varied audiences
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive relationships across teams and departments
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • A collaborative team-oriented approach and the ability to work across a shared services model
  • Experience in the public sector is desirable

Essential Requirement

  • Degree Qualification in Accounting Commerce or similar discipline and studying towards CPA/CA (or equivalent) full member status or extensive equivalent experience
