Job Description

The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center (CBDC) of Seattle Childrens Hospital (SCH)and the University of Washington Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants at the full-time rank of Assistant Associate or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT) on the Clinician Scholar pathway for the position of Clinical Hematologist/Oncologist with a focus in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. The 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) split will include at least 50% clinical care and 30% medical directorship in quality improvement and patient safety becoming an associate director of the mesosystem for CBDC and running one addition there will be the usual 20% protected administrative time for clinical scholar assistant professors provided by the hospital and Department of Pediatrics. Salary and rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor (WOT) will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.

The Cancer and Blood Disorders Program provides a collaborative environment for basic clinical and translational research and boasts a diverse team including 60 faculty members who are clinically active 12 fellows as well as over 30 advanced practice providers. The successful candidate will provide clinical expertise caring for pediatric hematology/oncology or BMT patients while working within a highly collaborative team.

The associate medical director of the mesosystem and dyad lead of a microsystem for quality improvement and patient safety within the CBDC (the clinical service line for the CBDP) provides medical leadership for clinical quality improvement activities along with the medical director of the mesosystem to help hematology/oncology leadership ensure that patients receive safe high-quality care within our service line. Leadership responsibilities include identifying aligning and providing oversight to address key priorities for the organization academic division of hematology oncology bone marrow transplant and cellular therapies CBDC and SCH Center for Quality. These activities are undertaken in direct partnership with the medical director of the mesosystem as well as the Center for Quality and Safety.

This position will devote majority of effort to clinical responsibilities in the Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at SCH. Anticipated Start Date Fall/Winter 2025.

  • Develop and implement an educational strategy to improve quality improvement skills engagement capacity and scholarly productivity for CBDC physicians and fellows.
  • Provide clinical service and assure that patients cared for receive only the highest quality care.
  • Contribute to and expand the clinical program and patient services in general and consultative hematology in both the inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Apply quality improvement skills clinical informatics continuous improvement methodologies and training (Key Driver diagrams Statistical Process Control) to the program and division in conjunction with the medical director of the mesosystem.
  • Participate in the education and training of medical students residents and fellows.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching research and service.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors MD $13085 - $19627 per month ($157020 - $235524 annually) Associate Professors MD $16167 - $24251 per month ($194004 - $291012 annually) Professors MD $20335 - $30502 per month ($244020 - $366024 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in university benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Childrens University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).



Successful Candidates will have

  • MD MD/PhD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent)
  • Must be Board Eligible or Certified in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
  • Must be currently licensed as a physician or eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for university sponsorship for an H-1B visa graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
