Our Youth Residential programs provide culturally based programming support and safe home-based accommodations for youth in the care of Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) as well as an Indigenous funded agency (Usma) providing long term therapeutic care for up to 3 children or youth. These programs support children or youth who have experienced a trauma are addressing adverse childhood experiences and/or overcoming other adversities.
The Community Living programs provide essential services to adults we serve with personalized support programs that stress independence support unique strengths and qualities and encourage integration into the community.
Taproot is hiring Social Services workers to care for the individuals (adults and children and youth) within our programs in Port Alberni. We are currently hiring for the following roles in both part-time and full-time capacities:
Community Support Workers - $24.94-$29.37 per hour
Residential Child & Youth Workers - $27.54-$31.61 per hour
Residential Child & Youth Workers with overnight scheduling - $27.54-$31.61 per hour
Multiple positions are currently available with work schedules that may include but are not limited to the following shifts: 07:0015:00 15:0023:00 and 23:0007:00.

Assist Person served with the activities of daily living involving their personal and health care behavioural nutritional recreational social vocational educational cultural and environmental needs as identified in their person-centered plans (PCP) while keeping trauma informed care at the forefront of support.
Work in collaboration with MCFD CLBC VIHA Mental Health Services Community Supports Outreach Teams Harm Reduction Workers Cultural Supports Knowledge Keepers Schools Behavior Consultants stakeholders and partners.
Demonstrate a high degree of tolerance and respect for a supported individuals unique personality and challenges while promoting ones dignity and rights
Support and promote a friendly and effective working relationship with support individual family and team members.
Apply crisis intervention and risk management strategies.
Assist with case management documentation by identifying strengths and potential challenges; contribute to the evaluation of the individuals progress and prepares reports.
Organize household tasks (meal planning food purchasing and preparation house cleaning basic maintenance)
Implement individuals daily schedule including transporting individuals to and from appointments school monitoring progress and supporting at-home learning
Administer medications as per policy
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required

Experience working with youth or adults with complex behaviors
Diploma or Degree in Social Work Child and Youth Work Human Services Education Sociology or Psychology
An equivalent combination of education training and experience may also be considered.
Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with clean drivers abstract
Reliable safe vehicle with appropriate insurance for transporting individuals
Experience with trauma informed practices
Strong conflict resolution mediation and crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
Current WCB Occupational First Aid Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT are considered an asset.
**Child & Youth Programs - successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening and provide three (3) professional references prior to confirmed employment with Taproot Community Support Services **
