JOB TITLE: Specialized Curriculum and Support Teacher (STEP)REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Designated SupervisorLOCATION: Worcester Public Schools Worcester MassachusettsPOSITION PURPOSEThe Worcester Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced special education teacher to join our dynamic team. This role is integral in promoting evidence-based inclusive practices and providing specialized support to general educators and sub-separate educators. The Specialized Curriculum and Support Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction that meets the diverse academic social and behavioral needs of students with Autism across various educational JOB FUNCTIONS (may be included along with other responsibilities)Instructional Support: Collaborate with educators to design and implement inclusive instructional strategies that align with the state common core standards tailored to meet the needs of students with social emotional and/or related staff in implementation and utilization with the fidelity of district-prescribed curriculum. Provide support with assessment tools. Work with both general and special educators to ensure appropriate modifications and accommodations to optimize access to inclusion and the least restrictive environment. Ensure that behavior specialists and classroom teachers work collaboratively to embed evidence-based social skills opportunities and lessons as part of specialized programming. Behavioral Support: In collaboration with school-based personnel utilize data-driven approaches to develop and implement class-wide and individualized behavioral supports ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment. Train general educators on behavioral strategies and supports to optimize students access to the least restrictive environment. Training and Development: Provide on-the-ground and job-embedded training and professional development to teachers paraeducators and administrators on best practices for supporting students with autism and/or related disabilitiesData Management: Implement and manage data systems to monitor student progress inform instructional decisions and adjust interventions as needed. Provide staff with training resources and support to carry over these systems. Assist staff in using data to develop measurable and appropriate IEP goals and objectives and guide IEP teams to make decisions based on objective data. Communication: Maintain strong written and verbal communication with staff students and families to foster a collaborative and supportive educational AND REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Valid DESE license in a specific content area or grade level Bachelors degree in with a degree in special education or a related fieldThree (3) years of teaching experience in diverse settings-including substantially separate classroomsDemonstrated experience working with students with social emotional needs and related disabilities in both sub-separate and inclusion understanding and practical application of data to inform instructional and behavioral leadership skills with the ability to effectively train and collaborate with a diverse team of providing instruction aligned with state standards in an inclusive thinking and problem-solving written and verbal communication QUALIFICATIONS:Masters degree in special education or a related (5) years of teaching experience in diverse settings-including substantially separate classroomsWORK YEAR: This is a school-year position including: 180 pupil days 4 days of professional development and 1 day of teacher DAY: School day schedule SALARY: This position is represented by the Educational Association of Worcester (EAW) Unit A Teachers bargaining unit and the salary is determined by the appropriate step and lane placement on the Unit A salary schedule.
