Job Description

Position Summary
The Department of Physics at Villanova University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2026. We seek applicants committed to the teacher-scholar model in which faculty integrate their scholarly pursuits with undergraduate education. The successful candidate should demonstrate high potential for success in both teaching and research including the active engagement of undergraduate students in research and the ability to attract external funding. Members of the Villanova Physics Department carry out active research programs in the areas of Astrophysics and Condensed Matter Physics along with newer investigations in the field of Photonics and Quantum Astrophysics our faculty are involved in the cosmic microwave background black hole accretion time-domain astrophysics and star formation with strengths in observation and instrumentation. Villanova is an institutional member of the LSST DA and as such our faculty in the Villanova One Sky Center for Astrophysics are actively involved in the analysis and interpretation of Rubin Observatory Condensed Matter our faculty specialize in low-dimensional materials biological physics and magnetism in correlated-electron materials; the Department also has interests spanning classical and quantum photonics quantum optics lightmatter interactions and cavity QED . Candidates with expertise in photonics and related fields are especially encouraged to apply but all outstanding candidates will be considered. Duties And Responsibilities
In addition to maintaining an active research agenda leading to publication our new colleague will teach undergraduate courses in his/her area of expertise as well as other departmental courses in a way that fosters connections across the discipline and the Villanova community.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. is required as well as outstanding research potential and excellence in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications
Post-doctoral experience in Physics or a closely aligned field is preferred.
