As aCook you will work under direction of the Food Service Manager. This position requires thorough knowledge of food preparation sanitation storage & operation of food service equipment to prepare cook & serve food. Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providework direction & training to youth workers & youth apprentice in food preparation sanitation & storage of food for the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility (CHJCF);
  • Monitorservice lines loading of carts storage of foods & general cleaning;
  • Work all stations on a rotating basis to include cooking dish washing wiping down tables working on the serving line and sweeping & moping floors
  • Operatecommercial/standard kitchen equipment to cook food
  • Mixsalad & makedesserts dressings & breads; preparehot & cold beverages & special menu foods; slicemeat & cheese; makesandwiches; assemblefruit plates & relish trays; clean& cutvegetables & meats before cooking & mixing
  • Cleanwork area equipment & utensils;ensuresafety & sanitation of assigned area;
  • Operatecash register; preparedaily paperwork to include but not limited to HAACP forms;
  • Supervise youth workers assigned to work area; follow youth general safety& security procedures;
  • Setup food-line & portions of food in compliance with established dietary requirements;
  • Setup food carts according to daily recipes to be followed in food preparation area.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check that includes results from BCI & FBI. DYS is a qualifying employer for purposes of the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness PSLF program.

All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services must complete a paid mandatory 6 weeks of training. Week 1 is held at the facility weeks 2 through 4 are held at DYS Training Academy in Orient Ohio Monday through Thursday 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. (travel lodging and meals are provided). Weeks 5 - 6 are on the job training held at the facility.
