Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is seeking candidates for an open rank tenure-track faculty position with research interests in the broad area of operations research and industrial engineering. Areas of interest include but are not limited to (1) supply chain modeling management and design; (2) AI-enabled modeling and design for service operations manufacturing or health care. (3) novel methods and algorithms for AI-integrated decision making and optimization. (4) methods and algorithms for developing AI models under novel objectives and constraints (e.g. safety impartiality). Demonstrated expertise in advancing and/or applying AI technology is highly desirable. Candidates are also encouraged to highlight the practical relevance and impact of the methodologies they develop particularly in manufacturing or healthcare systems.

This position is part of the Wisconsin Research Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE)-Artificial Intelligence (AI) cluster hire initiative with the candidates tenure home in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Position will be expected to participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments schools and colleges. Through accelerated and strategic faculty hiring research infrastructure enhancement interdisciplinary collaboration and increased student and educational opportunities RISE addresses complex societal challenges of importance to the state nation and world. Building on UWMadisons strengths RISE expands the Universitys successful track record of connecting with communities and industry on collaborative solutions.

Candidates hired through RISE will join a community of scholars working across disciplines schools and colleges on research teaching and outreach endeavors. The community will engage regularly in venues such as seminar series and colloquia to share ongoing projects and identify opportunities to work together. The University will support the community facilitating access to research infrastructure and funding to support broad and rich collaboration. Key Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and contributing to curriculum updates and innovations to educate a diverse student body; mentoring graduate students and supervising their research; developing and directing a well-recognized and extramurally funded research program; participating in departmental and university faculty governance; contributing to professional and public service; participating in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments schools and colleges.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have an outstanding academic record exceptional potential for creative research and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education in industrial and systems engineering. Appointment to this tenure-track position requires a PhD degree be received prior to start of appointment.

  • The candidates years of experience and professional accomplishments will be commensurate with the rank sought. Associate and Full professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and the College of Engineering.

Education:

  • Earned PhD in Industrial Engineering Operations Research or related fields obtained by date of hire.
