The Equipment Operator Senior (EOS) position will provide litter clean-up and abatement services in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD). This position will support a new litter abatement program which includes operating a new litter vacuum truck within the BMSD. This position requires the ability to drive large trucks and operate heavy equipment including a single-axle truck tandem dump truck roll-off truck semi-trailer truck box truck and/or claw truck and may operate a variety of other waste collection trucks as well. Additional duties include manual litter collection as needed completing daily work orders logging locations serviced and identifying hot spots for the purposes of service monitoring and outreach.


General Description
Performs skilled work and supervision in the operation of large vehicles.
Works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires two (2) years experience operating heavy equipment related to area of assignment or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Drivers License B or higher for duration of appointment.

Preferences
  • Associates or Vocational degree in heavy equipment operation or closely related field
  • MOT Certification or Spotter Training
  • One (1) year experience operating waste collection trucks
  • One (1) year of experience with truck loading transporting and maintenance or closely related experience
  • Two (2) years of experience utilizing dump trucks roll-off trucks semi-trailer trucks box trucks and/or claw truck

SCOPE OF WORK

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Transports construction equipment using a lowbed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loads and unloads vehicles as required; operates heavy duty road roller in resurfacing and roadway construction; operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and back hoe digging shovel; operates tractor and bush hog for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches; operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways; may operate smaller earth moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats.

Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants cooling systems hydraulic systems and electrical systems; makes necessary minor adjustments and reports malfunctions to supervisor.

Supervises labor crew with assigned tasks or acts as sub-foreman on landscape or construction jobs.

Performs related work as assigned.

Performs medium work that involves walking standing stooping stretching or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill adeptness and speed in the use of fingers hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
