Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITY:

Provides assistance to the Gastrointestinal (GI) team in the care diagnosis and procedural support for patients undergoing GI tests and procedures with a specific focus on GI motility studies. This role involves performing and editing esophageal manometry and other GI studies generating reports and ensuring accurate documentation for provider review. The GI Motility Technician plays a key role in the diagnostic process supporting neonatal pediatric adolescent and adult patients by addressing their unique growth and development needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

Performs technical duties in all GI tests and procedures including but not limited to esophageal manometry ensuring that proper technical practices are followed in accordance with accepted standards and protocols.

Includes editing manometry and additional GI studies and generating reports for esophageal manometry studies for providers to review ensuring data is accurately recorded edited and prepared for provider interpretation and diagnosis.

Generates and documents reports for esophageal manometry studies summarizing findings and relevant data for physician review and diagnosis.

Provides proper maintenance assembly and handling of specialty instrumentation for GI motility and diagnostic equipment including manometry pH probes (Bravo Impedance) and capsule endoscopy.

Assists the registered professional nurse (RN) or physician during GI tests and procedures when needed particularly during complex motility studies.

Meets with patients and parents to explain GI testing procedures including manometry and other motility studies to alleviate fears and provide education regarding the testing process.

Prepares equipment and supplies for various GI studies including breath tests pH probes motility studies and capsule endoscopy.

Tests and calibrates equipment to ensure accurate functioning during GI procedures particularly for motility testing and esophageal manometry.

Assists in research studies and in the testing of new equipment or technologies related to GI motility including manometry studies and pH monitoring.

Conducts formal in-service programs regarding the care of GI patients focusing on the specifics of motility studies and the procedures involved in esophageal manometry.

Collects documents and reports specific data to the appropriate RN or physician ensuring the integrity and accuracy of information for patient care.

Completes paperwork for hospital and physician billing ensuring accuracy in charges related to GI motility procedures.

Tracks and orders disposable and reusable inventory necessary for day-to-day operations in the Procedure Suite ensuring adequate stock for motility and manometry testing.

Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel ensuring they are well-prepared to perform GI motility studies and manometry procedures. Contributes to staff development through in-service education conferences and research projects.

Develops or individualizes teaching plans to meet patient and family learning needs including educating them about GI motility studies and manometry procedures. Identifies patient preferences and needs and documents educational activities.

Adheres to service principles with a customer service focus on innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care to patients families co-workers and others.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Education: Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences preferred.

Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Gastrointestinal (GI) Technician or Procedural Technician particularly in GI motility testing is preferred.

Pediatrics Experience: Prior experience in a pediatric healthcare setting is preferred with a strong understanding of pediatric care principles.

Child Safety: Ability to safely assist with immobilizing pediatric patients when necessary during procedures ensuring their comfort and security.

Physical Capability: Ability to move and adjust equipment and assist in patient transfers ensuring safe handling and positioning during procedures.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to explain complex procedures to children and families in an empathetic and accessible manner.

Diverse Population Care: Ability to work with a diverse range of pediatric patients and clinical populations ensuring culturally competent and inclusive care.

Education

Pay Range

$22.25-$36.38 Hourly
