Job Description:

The Department of General Internal Medicine is currently providing clinical services to the community of NW Ohio and SE Michigan for all areas or specialties of general disorders. An important aspect of the mission of the University of Toledo College of Mission and Life Sciences is educating students residents and fellows as well as developing research programs related to general disorders.

As a full time faculty member he/she is required to devote his/her full professional efforts to the programs of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences fulfilling at the highest level of professional competence.

This is an academic position which requires a combination of teaching patient care research/scholarship as well as administrative activities that are necessary for the function of the Department of General Internal Medicine. The initial assignments and percent of total effort in the areas of teaching research/scholarship and administration/service will be as follows:

(a) Teaching: He/she will be expected to actively participate in the Departments educational programs teaching medical students and residents. This will include participation in the medical student lecture series active participation in all of the teaching conferences of the Department participation in the postgraduate courses conducted by the Department and precepting and mentoring students and residents. Specific responsibilities include:

a. Teaching pre-clerkship medical students in the classroom small groups and in other clinical or non-clinical settings
b. Teaching rounds and ambulatory clinics with medical students during clerkship and during their advanced clinical rotations
c. Didactics for medical students residents and fellows
d. Mentorship and advising for students residents and fellows.
e. Departmental conferences such as Morbidity and Mortality Conference Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs

(b) Research/Scholarship: He/she is required to participate in research and other scholarly activities related to the area of expertise and interest with expectation of intramural and extramural grant funding.

(c) Administration/Service: He/she will be expected to participate to the extent that you may be reasonably called upon in administrative and/or services functions of the Department of General Internal Medicine the College of Medicine and Life Sciences or teaching hospital committees.

Communication and other skills:
Ability to successfully teach and mentor medical students residents and fellows.
Experience collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues.
Experience working in a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive effective patient experiences with our organization.
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
The faculty member must be an MD/DO who has successfully completed a residency in general internal medicine as well as a fellowship (if applicable). The candidate must be Board Certified or become Board Certified within 3 years of hire and must meet all the institutional requirements for appointment to Assistant Professor.
