Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is looking to hire a Law Enforcement Liaison (Sergeant) within the Eastern Region!

The BasePoint for this position is the Williamsburg Customer Service Center (CSC).

The Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) serves as a strategic bridge between DMVs Highway Safety Office Law Enforcement Division state and local law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders. The LEL champions the states highway safety programs by promoting traffic safety commercial vehicle enforcement community engagement and initiatives to combat identity fraud tax evasion and vehicle role also oversees and supports grant-funded programs ensuring effective use of resources to strengthen enforcement education and community outreach. Through partnerships training and enforcement support the LEL advances DMVs mission to reduce crashes injuries and fatalities while strengthening public trust and safety.

With the Commonwealth of Virginias commitment to recruiting and retaining Veterans the Annual Leave accrual rate calculation will include service time in the military National Guard or Reserves in addition to state service.

Minimum Qualifications

Current VA DCJS Law Enforcement certification.

Current DCJS General Instructor certification.

Supervisory and leadership experience in a law enforcement setting.

Strong knowledge of traffic safety laws fraud investigation and vehicle theft investigation and prevention.

Excellent communication organizational and leadership skills.

Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.

Ability to collaborate with diverse law enforcement public safety and community stakeholders.

Valid state drivers license required.

MUST possess DCJS certification as a law enforcement officer. MUST comply with statutorily specified minimum qualifications for law enforcement officers (15.2-1705 Code of Virginia) including a satisfactory criminal history records check background investigation and physical examination; MUST possess a valid drivers license and a driving record that reflects a sense of safety and responsibility; willing to work irregular hours travel overnight and endure personal risks; must reside in the Commonwealth of Virginia and within a 50 mile or 75-minute drive time of assigned BasePoint per agency policy; must be willing to establish residency within 90-days to satisfy policy requirement.

Selected candidate(s) must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DMV participates in E-Verify.
