The Salal review is looking to hire a few students for theArts Magazine Editor/Graphic Designer position.

Note: This position is limited to 19 hours per week and accrues 1 hour of non-compensable sick leave for every 40 hours worked.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review literary art submissions accepted for publication making necessary and suggested line edits for Volume 24 of The Salal Review.
  • Work closely with some authors in revision if necessary.
  • Create consistency and class in writing style throughout the publication including composing the contributor bios for authors and artists and revamping the *extra* pages of the magazine.
  • Monitor the visual design of each literary art piece throughout the graphic design process to ensure that original intent and edits are maintained.
  • Create and publish promotional materials including flyers andregular Instagram posts to promote the call for submissions and increase the audience for the print and digital magazine
  • Respond to emails/inquiries received through the organizations account
  • Create and distribute promotional/advertising materials
  • Design and layout page spreads for The Salal Review (an 80 page magazine displaying literary and visual art from creatives throughout the community)
  • Apply input notes and suggestions received from student editors enrolled in Arts Magazine Publication (and/or club members) to improve design concepts
  • Create consistency and professionalism through alignment spacing etc.
  • Stylize the magazine via visual embellishments and aesthetics
  • Utilize Photoshop to present visual art effectively (crop color-correct etc.)
  • Design the magazines cover and table of contents
  • Additional administrative duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

  • Applicants may be asked to demonstrate writing and/or design skills as a part of the interview process
  • Preference will be given to those previously or currently enrolled in Arts Magazine Publication and/or Graphic Design or related art courses
