Job Summary

Job Description

School Counselor
Manages student 504 plans and meetings in accordance in with federal law and OPS 504 Handbook
Provides direct support service to individual students small groups and classrooms
Completes assessments referrals and counseling with students and families
Creates student schedules in conjunction with school leadership
Monitors individual student progress towards promotion & graduation
Ensures accuracy of transfer records and transcripts
Leads maintenance of student cumulative folders and distribution of report cards
Develop and maintain comprehensive school counseling program and plan
Support the transitions of new students to the school
Support the transitions from Lower School to Upper School
Connect community resources and programs to students/parents to meet individualized student needs
Facilitate monthly classroom visits to all K 6 classrooms on selected counseling topics

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in counseling social work psychology or a related field required; masters degree preferred
  • Valid North Carolina license as a School Counselor and/or School Social Worker
  • Experience working in a school setting preferably with elementary students
  • Strong skills in student support collaboration with families and consultation with teachers and staff
  • Commitment to fostering a positive inclusive and developmentally appropriate school environment
