Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Transportation Technician. This position performs a variety of duties related to the safe and efficient routing of District Transportation vehicles to serve the needs of students attending Springfield Public Schools. The person in this position will focus on software and technology support and will provide back-up Bus Driving as needed. This is a full time (8.0 hpd.) position and works 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday 261 days a year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality as set forth in Board Policy.
- Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant District Board policies administrative regulations and building rules.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students staff parents and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Work independently and cooperatively in teams with other staff members and students.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Attends in-service and workshop trainings; applying training to instructional responsibilities.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Completes appropriate logs forms and paperwork as required.
- Reports safety sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisors.
- Reports issues to authorities as necessary animal control suspicious activity etc.
- Reports accidents road and other hazards as necessary.
- Substitutes for other drivers as needed.
- Designs coordinates and works with department management to implement efficient regular education special education and inclement weather routing using established district guidelines and the district computerized routing system.
- Coordinates the pickup and delivery of special education students to various programs throughout the district looking for efficiencies wherever possible to reduce route durations and miles traveled.
- Publishes bus route information making it available to others in the organization as well as students and parents.
- Evaluates and modifies routes considering district routing guidelines stop locations blind corners narrow roads safe crossings for students traffic density speed limits road obstacles driver input and efficiencies.
- Maintains accurate route maps in the computerized routing system.
- Maintains records and files relating to special education student transportation.
- Communicates with district staff third party service providers department management and parents to resolve issues or concerns about bus routes.
- Serves as part of the dispatch team to coordinate bus transportation throughout the district.
- Looks for opportunities to improve routing efficiency and communication within the district. Uses automated systems to track and report actual route information.
- Works with department management and the software vendor to maintain current updates to the computerized routing system.
- Prepares route maps and schedules for drivers and schools including detailed route times and driver hours required.
- Provides back-up support to other positions in the Transportation Department in case of absence including clerical fueling and scheduling.
- Provide support for scheduling bus trips that are not part of the regular day-to-day routing.
- Coordinates bus repair work order management to insure availability of buses.
- Performing related duties consistent with job description and assignment.
Qualifications

- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students teachers parents and members of the community. Ability to prioritize work tasks and exercise good judgment while working in a dynamic environment.
- Certificates Licenses Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District including the ability to obtain a valid Oregon Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) State School Bus Drivers certificates/licenses passenger endorsement and a valid First Aid Card.
