Under the supervision of the Special Assistant the Legal Services Assistant performs a variety of secretarial and specialized legal clerical tasks for the Division of Legal Services working with a number of attorneys in a fast-paced office serving the Legislature. Job duties include: proof reading and editing legal opinions and memoranda related to legislation; compiling bill summary and oversight reports; taking written work requests from legislators and staff pairing work requests with the appropriate attorney and entering the request into our request tracking system; performing research; carrying out a full range of reception duties including multi-line telephone service and greeting clients in person; and filing.
The ideal candidate will be professional dependable and able to work under general direction both independently as well as with a team taking on a myriad of tasks. This position is the first point of contact for those entering both the Directors Office and Legal Services Division and requires a professional attitude and excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate will have a high level of initiative great interpersonal skills be productive organized and punctual.
The successful candidate will possess good time management skills the ability to negotiate conflicting demands prioritize workload to meet deadlines and shifting responsibilities the ability to attend to detail the ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge of Microsoft Word Access and Outlook software.

Minimum Qualifications
An Alaska Resident
AND
Graduation from high school or the equivalent;
AND
One year of paid experience performing a variety of office clerical assignments requiring
the use of word processing equipment and software to prepare correspondence reports or
documents;
AND
Must be able to type at a net of 50 words per minute

- The potential for flexible work schedules during interim when the legislature is not in session.
- Agency staff may accrue as compensatory time up to 150 hours of hours worked over the standard work week. There is no cash value to compensatory time.
- The State offers paid leave starting at 6:04 (h:mm) a pay period or 21 days a year. If you have previous time working for the State of Alaska in a leave eligible position the time will be calculated into your accrual rate.
