Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. This position is contingent upon the continuing availability of funds from sources other than continuing state budget funds or permanent trust funds. The successful candidate is expected to participate in actively identifying and cultivating funding opportunities. The UNC School of Government ( SOG and the School) works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens (clients) understand and improve state and local government. As the largest university-based local government training advisory and research organization in the United States the School offers up to 200 courses webinars and specialized conferences for more than 12000 public officials each year. Faculty members annually publish approximately 50 books manuals reports articles bulletins and other print and online content related to state and local government. The School is also home to a nationally ranked graduate program in public administration and specialized centers focused on information technology and environmental finance. The Assistant Director of ncIMPACT will work closely with the Executive Director to lead and manage the initiatives programs projects and initiatives ensuring the successful delivery of public service outcomes. This role is responsible for operational and financial oversight strategic planning support business development and organizational communications. Key responsibilities include: - Lead planning execution and oversight of ncIMPACT programs events and projects developing timelines deliverables and coordinating responsibilities for staff and students. - Monitor and project expenditures against available funds draft budgets for funded proposals and oversee ncIMPACTs $2 million and growing budget. - Track and report project expenditures activities and outcomes preparing financial and progress reports for internal leadership and external partners. - Ensure compliance with all grant and sponsor requirements including spending limits allowable costs and documentation standards and coordinate proposal submissions with ncIMPACT staff and the SOG Finance Office. - Liaise with external partners and stakeholders to support project implementation and organizational objectives. - Maintain internal administrative and financial documentation for all projects including processes related to adjuncts independent contractors and partner organizations. - Contribute to strategic planning business development discussions and organizational communications as needed.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
This position requires the successful candidate to be a self-starter consummate team player excellent communicator and have the willingness to be a key player in assuring the financial sustainability of ncIMPACT. Other essential qualifications are: Previous experience with project or program management event planning or related experience. Understanding of or experience working with local governments A high level of competency in Microsoft Outlook Word and Excel including capabilities of advanced spreadsheet design in Excel or Google Sheets Strong understanding of budgets and financial forecasting Excellent writer and editor Ability to communicate complex program information with a substantial impact on targeted audiences Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external partners Ability to interact with key people at all levels of any organization
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience with significant management responsibility for soft-funded university-based public service programs is highly desirable Familiarity with public policy issues that are central to ncIMPACTs work such as those mentioned above (health education economic development public finance and the environment) Experience with Tableau or similar visualization software
