The Special Prosecutions Bureau of the Illinois Attorney Generals Office is seeking a prosecuting attorney to serve in its Revenue Prosecution Unit (Unit). The Unit is responsible for prosecuting criminal violations of Illinois tax laws in trial courts located primarily in central and southern Illinois. Attorneys in this Unit work closely with special agents from the Department of Revenue Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and primarily prosecute the crimes of tax evasion fraudulent filing of tax returns and failing to file tax returns. Prosecutors in the Unit also occasionally work with other state and federal prosecutors on financial crimes narcotics cases and public corruption cases when those cases have a tax fraud nexus.
Assistant Attorneys General in this Unit prosecute felony tax crimes and provide legal assistance primarily to agents of the Department of Revenues Criminal Investigation Division and occasionally to federal and local law enforcement. Unit prosecutors are expected to:
Applicants must be licensed to practice in Illinois at the time of application. Candidates should have at least 2-5 years criminal litigation experience or alternatively a demonstrated interest in public service (i.e. internships law school clinics clerkships). Ideal candidates will have strong legal research & writing skills and a specific interest in white-collar crime.
Salary: Salaries are commensurate with number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and range from $ 82000 to $ position will be paid from funds appropriated to the Illinois Department of Revenue.
