Job Description

Reports to: COO/CFO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

The Controller overseas the financial functions of the company and is responsible for the management of the day-to-day financial operations including accounting and reporting planning and analysis treasury budget and forecast development sales taxes and overseeing the internal and external activities of record keeping and reporting.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The position supervises others.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Oversee the financial close including identifying issues and/or opportunities to improve financial processes (accounting accounts payable and accounts receivable) and decrease the month-end close

Initiate and manage cross-functional projects to implement recommended solutions along with evaluating and implementing new financial tools/systems/controls

Establish modify enhance document and coordinate implementation of accounting and GAAP accounting control policies and procedures

Deliver monthly performance analyses and quarterly rolling forecasts maintaining the three-year financial plan and leading the annual and quarterly planning process

Apply best practice principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports compile and analyze financial information such as general ledger accounts and documenting business transactions

Analyzes financial information detailing assets liabilities and capital and prepares balance sheets profit and loss statements and other reports to summarize the companys current and projected financial position

Partner with department heads and other company leadership to develop and implement quarterly business plans strategic initiatives and operating priorities

Prepare proactive reporting and analysis of key performance indicators sales margin and expense drivers and product line/customer profitability

Apply principles of activity-based costing and cost accounting to conduct studies which provide detailed cost information not supplied by general accounting systems

Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products and/or services

Partner with Supply Chain to ensure the company meets and achieves key success metrics providing visibility and insight to leadership around risks and opportunities

Collaborate with leadership in future-year planning and strategy activities providing thought leadership on business drivers and their financial impact

Manage in partnership with the business all business investments (people incentives OPEX Capex) and corresponding ROI

Create analyses commentary and presentation materials for management meetings

Partner with HR in developing incentive compensation activities including sales compensation plan design and commission calculations

Review federal state and local tax returns for the corporation

Examine accounts and records and reviews tax liability in accordance with prescribed rates and/or laws and develop strategies for minimizing tax liability

Maintain compliance with periodic tax payment information reporting and other tax authority requirements

Drive the knowledge enhancement and professional development of Finance team

Ensure established policies and procedures are followed

Participate in continuous improvement project team activities

Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business; MBA and/or CPA preferred

7 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or Controller in a business of similar size and nature high-volume distribution-based company preferred

Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Experience and proficiency with ERP systems; Infor and or SX.e a plus

Experience and proficiency with business intelligence tools; Microstrategy a plus

Experience consolidating financial statements for multiple business entities (in Excel)

Experience developing and maintaining cash forecasts

Skills & Abilities:

Strong accounting financial analysis and project management skills

Ability to identify develop and implement process improvement ideas

Ability to communicate effectively (clear and concise) through writing speaking active listeningâand presentationâ

High proficiency in Excel; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite related software

Excellent problem-solving skills and sound judgment

Ability to work both independently within a team and cross-functionally with other departments/stakeholdersâ

Ability to adapt to frequent changes in the work environmentâ

Strong attention to detail

Ability to develop and foster business relationships

Willing to participate in Company designated training

Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the company handbook

Must be able to maintain confidentiality

Must be able to practice safe work habits

Physical Demands:
