Job Summary

As an Athletic Groundskeeper/General Maintenance team member youll be responsible for maintaining the playing surfaces and exterior grounds for the Portage Township School District. Your work ensures that our athletic fields are safe well-maintained and ready for all athletic events and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform daily field preparation for all scheduled athletic events including football baseball soccer and track.

• Operate and maintain a variety of specialized grounds equipment including mowers trimmers edgers aerators spreaders gators and tractors.

• Prepare athletic fields for competition which includes painting and chalking lines grooming infields and setting up equipment.

• Determine the playability of athletic fields and communicate with the Athletic Director regarding any conditions that may require a rainout or cancellation.

• Inspect grounds facilities and equipment daily reporting any safety concerns or needed repairs.

• Apply pesticides herbicides and fertilizers in accordance with all safety regulations and district policies.

• Mow prune trees and shrubs and perform other routine grounds maintenance tasks.

• Assist with other grounds duties as needed including snow and ice removal from walkways and parking lots.

• Perform general maintenance and repair duties on buildings and facilities including minor carpentry plumbing painting and electrical work.

• Assist with the upkeep of all district facilities and equipment to ensure a safe and functional environment.

• Be a proactive and collaborative team player following directives from the Director of Building and Grounds.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 1-3 years of experience in grounds maintenance with a focus on athletic fields and turf care.

• Familiarity with operating heavy lawn care and specialized athletic field equipment.

• Knowledge of various sports field layouts set-up and maintenance needs.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Holds a valid drivers license and has reliable transportation.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position requires the ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions. You must be able to regularly lift and move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. You will be exposed to outdoor elements noise and vibration while operating equipment. The role requires the use of hands walking stooping kneeling and climbing.
