Subtransmission System Planning Engineering Manager
Summary
The Subtransmission System Planning Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers responsible for establishing the future needs of the subtransmission system by analyzing the impacts of new customer load and generation. This role focuses on driving strategic planning system innovation and operational excellence to ensure a safe reliable and sustainable grid for the future.
Responsibilities
Lead engineering and business initiatives to develop grid strategies that influence how the grid is planned designed operated and maintained.
Develop and maintain a project portfolio management system to prioritize projects allocate resources and monitor performance.
Evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency cost-effectiveness and sustainability; design and implement improvement projects and new systems.
Establish and maintain relationships with external partners vendors and contractors to support project delivery and innovation.
Coach engineering teams on professional development opportunities to build technical expertise and leadership capacity.
Direct the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies technologies and safety programs that support long-term system advancement and employee well-being.
Manage engineering teams providing emergent and routine troubleshooting support for technical needs ensuring quality consistency and cost control across projects.
Oversee the design and implementation of new equipment and cost-effective modifications to improve safety reliability and throughput.
Translate organizational goals into actionable objectives by setting team goals and assigning responsibilities accordingly.
Ensure the protection of physical financial and cybersecurity assets and uphold the highest standards in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Minimum Qualifications
Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising engineering work in operations production construction or maintenance environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading employee performance and development including coaching mentoring and performance evaluations.
Degree in Engineering or another STEM field.
Experience with regulatory policies (FERC/CPUC) and ability to integrate technical analysis with tariffs and stakeholder impacts to solve complex challenges.
Proficiency with power system analysis tools such as PSLF PSCAD EMS CYME CAPE MDI or similar software.
Five or more years as an Engineer or Power System Planner in an electric utility with experience in transmission subtransmission and/or distribution system modeling or planning.
Strong communication presentation and writing skills with the ability to simplify complex technical issues for varied audiences.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams stakeholders and all levels of management to develop solutions and secure alignment.
