This is a part-time position located at theState Museum in New Orleans LA.
This position will perform general complex carpentry work involving the construction alteration repair or maintenance in historically significant Museum buildings.The Louisiana State Museums collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our states rich and diverse history and culture.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the carpentry trade.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Performs general complex carpentry work involving the construction alteration repair or maintenance in historically significant Museum buildings. Perform complex and detailed carpentry work on the Museum displays to include construction of museum galleries display cases and exhibit areas which require a high degree of precision. Build other wood items to include furniture and cabinets for specific use. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
- Build construct repair alter renovate and reproduce trim ceilings partitions walls floors shelves cabinets exhibit cases windows window screens doors furniture picture frames stairs steps porches spindles banisters and other wood related items some of which require the ability to reproduce to the original historical design and quality.
- Will be responsible for the repair and/or installation of locks windows and door glass and other security-orientated devices.
- Use table saw power saw joiner wood lathes planers drills sanders and other carpentry equipment and tools. Maintain same to clean sharpen repair and other general maintenance as required.
- Fit cut and finishes sheetrock; installs fits and cuts paneling plywood frames blinds shutters and miscellaneous wall coverings.
- Acts as a lead worker to other trades involved in complex construction jobs such as museum exhibit installation.
- Performs other related work assignments.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE limited to 1245 working hours in a 12 month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies depending on experience.**
Work Schedule:The State Museums are open at various hours from Tuesday-Sunday. This position may be required to work evenings weekends and/or holidays. This position may be required to travel.
