Job Description & Program Goal
The 21st Century Internship aims to provide high school students interested in a career in education with a year-long out-of-school-time internship. This opportunity allows students to gain valuable work experience while providing additional support to students in our 21st CCLC after school programs at:
- Witchcraft Heights Elementary School
- Horace Mann Laboratory School
- Collins Middle School
- Bentley Academy Innovation School
21C Internship Coordinator Commitment
The 21st Century Internship Coordinator position is a part-time stipend role over the school year starting in October 2025 and ending in May 2026.
The internship coordinator will support the following:
- Onboarding Interns: This includes interviewing candidates scheduling program walkthroughs managing hiring paperwork and confirming intern schedules.
- Program Orientation: Facilitating an orientation session for all student interns.
- Professional Development: Facilitating a minimum of 10 bi-weekly professional learning workshops to develop interns job readiness and youth development skills.
- Mentorship: Conducting weekly site observations and providing feedback to interns using an observation tool.
- Coaching: Leading intern coaching cycles as needed.
- Communication: Conducting weekly check-ins with program site coordinators.
- Celebration: Supporting the end-of-program celebration and certification process.
- Payroll: Assisting interns with processing their bi-weekly timesheets.
- Additional Duties: Other duties as assigned to support the internship and student success.
- Collaboration: Work in collaboration with the Director of Ext. Academic & Enrichments to support program priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be:
- A Salem Public Schools staff member with experience working with high school students or interns.
- Familiar with Work-Based Learning and My Career and Academic Plan (MYCAP).
- Experienced in working with young people.
