Job Description

The Role

As our Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor youll be the driving force behind creating a safe healthy and environmentally responsible workplace. Youll combine technical expertise with a hands-on approach guiding supporting and inspiring our teams to meet and exceed HSE standards. From shaping strategy and leading audits to engaging employees and driving cultural change youll play a key role in ensuring compliance minimising risk and fostering continuous improvement. What will you do

Operating System:

  • Ensure Howden meets all current and future statutory HSE requirements. Anticipate and review changes to legislation and incorporate any updates into the Howden HSE management system when required.
  • Maintain our HSE management system to achieve continuous certification to the relevant international standards for the company (ISO14001 OHSAS18001/ISO45001) and supplier standards required by specific customers.
  • Engage management and employee support to ensure our HSE management system is the way we work and underpins both the certification and continual improvement of this system.
  • Lead and facilitate internal and external (customer and third party) audits and inspections.
  • Plan and operate an on-going management system internal audit programme.
  • Ensure non-conformances and corrective actions are addressed in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Support the supply chain function to maintain an effective HSE supplier approval and management process including conduct of audits and inspections at suppliers sites as required.

Operational:

  • Work collaboratively with managers to support their HSE requirements by providing appropriate technicaladvice to the required business areas. Ensure prompt action is taken to allow Howden to meet all its moral legal corporate and contractual obligations. Identify any deficiencies and assist managers to address any gaps quickly.
  • Ensure HSE risks across the business are identified and arrangements put in place to mitigate these risks as far as is reasonably practical. Ensure the required risk assessments are in place.
  • Determine the required occupational health and environmental monitoring regimes and ensure these are effectively implemented and documented.
  • Ensure that appropriate procedures for the reporting and investigation of accidents incidents and near misses are implemented and effectively utilised in order to promote organisational learning and prevent recurrence.
  • Own and drive the administration of the Occupational Health Screening Programme managing the supplier and the screening of our employees.

What do you bring

An ideal candidate would likely have the following profile:

  • Qualified in health safety and environmental management (NEBOSH IOSH IEMA) OR ability to prove qualification through experience with a passion for making workplaces safer and more sustainable.
  • Confident in driving HSE improvements that make a real difference to people and performance.
  • Skilled in spotting risks finding solutions and ensuring compliance with UK legislation and ISO standards.
  • Hands-on experience leading audits investigations and improvement projects from start to finish.
  • Strong communicator who can engage influence and inspire teams at every level.
  • Analytical mindset able to turn data into clear actions and measurable results.
  • Proactive self-driven and comfortable challenging the status quo to improve culture
  • Background in engineering manufacturing or similar technical environments an advantage.

Travel

The role is based on site in Peterborough. You may be required to travel to other Group facilities to support their requirements and work on Group initiatives or to customer sites to support installation and commissioning activities. As such this role may also require additional travel within the UK and internationally from time to time.
