Salary Range or Recruitment Range: (NC08) $37782 - $66120

• Working Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices.
• Experience in one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance pipe installation or asphalt patching.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others in equipment operations as well as directing the daily activities of a work crew.
• Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
• Experience in the operation of at least 2 pieces of the following equipment: backhoe tandem dump truck motor grader front end loader forklift force feed loader asphalt distributor asphalt patcher crack sealing machine track excavators skid steer or sweeper.

Additional Expectations:

Employee in this position must have working knowledge of the principals involved in the operation and use of the equipment to which assigned. Ability to perform assigned tasks and to follow oral and written instructions as directed by Supervisor. Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Employee must have ability to climb bend traverse steep and uneven terrain and work in extreme temperature conditions. Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Safety toe shoes are selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License. Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
