Job Description

Purpose:

Colonnas Shipyard is seeking a Storeroom/Toolroom Attendant to support operations in our Shipyard in Norfolk VA.

Job Description:
Issue tools and equipment to workers and maintain records of tools and equipment issued and returned manually or using computer.
Inspect and measure tools and equipment for defects and wear visually or using micrometer and reports damage.
Issue replacement tools to employees as required.
Tear down and inspect incoming tooling and equipment for defects and wear.
Perform inventory of the tools in the tool room.
Maintain records of tools issued to and returned by workers.
Mark and identify tools and equipment using identification tag stamp or electric marking tool.
Prepare inventory reports for the supervisor.
Investigate and search for missing tools.
Receive unpack and store incoming tools and equipment and requisitions stock to replenish inventory.
Utilize proper storage methods to increase availability and minimize loss.
Maintain an organized tool room.
Ensure tools are checked out and returned properly.
Schedule preventative maintenance on the equipment.
Route damaged dull and broken tools for repair sharpening and or replacement.
Perform electrical safety checks on the equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
Clean oil and perform minor repairs on equipment and tools.
Ensure that measuring devices are periodically calibrated.
Previous experience in a tool crib environment is required.
Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.


Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Qualifications:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have the ability to interact well with others.
Must have previous experience in a tool crib environment.
Must be proficient with the use of hand and power tools.
Must have mechanical aptitude.
Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Must have tool setup experience.
Must be reliable and have a good attendance record.
Desired Qualifications:
Prefer a working knowledge of various hand tools materials and equipment used in shipyard repair operations.
Travel Requirements:
Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job but no less than 20 lbs.
Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders work in extreme temperature environments aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces including enter and moving through manholes.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods
Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat humidity noise and dirty conditions working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
Employee is required to operate trucks forklifts & man-lifts.
While performing the duties of this job you may frequently be required to stand walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms climb and balance stoop squat kneel twist and crawl.
Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
Frequent use of respirator.
Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding cutting or working with molten metal.
