Job Summary:
The Drafter & GIS Technician role supports the Network Underground Services (NUS) team by designing creating specification drawings and maintaining underground drawings. This position requires strong AutoCAD skills and adherence to departmental procedures. The technician will produce engineering drawings update GIS data and maintain drawings to support the Network Underground Design Engineer and the NUS Test Group ensuring data accuracy and operational efficiency. This is a hybrid role requiring four days per week in the office.
Location: Atlanta Georgia United States.
Responsibilities:
- Prioritize safety in all tasks.
- Input process and maintain underground network data using GIS and AutoCAD tools.
- Prepare high-quality design packages for manhole vault and other underground facilities ensuring compliance with standards.
- Coordinate with other departments and external vendors to resolve design and material issues.
- Conduct site visits for project assessments (pre-construction during construction and post-construction).
- Provide support to construction services project management and maintenance teams.
- Participate in design review meetings and provide oversight for engineers and drafters.
- Support design criteria and standardization initiatives.
- Manage business needs with municipalities.
- Submit locate requests.
- Create traffic control diagrams and location maps.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- AutoCAD training experience or certification.
- Experience using AutoCAD for design and drafting.
- Basic GIS knowledge.
- Ability to translate verbal and written information into two-dimensional drawings.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and build effective relationships.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter attitude.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- An associate s degree or Certificate in GIS.
- Experience in GIS applications.
- Experience in creating network underground designs drawings.
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as Civil 3D.
- Familiarity with GIS CYME and Permitting processes.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and manage workload effectively.
